Operation "Video Poker Machine" begins
« on: June 29, 2008, 05:03:51 pm »
I bought the cabinet for $10.00

The monitor was free.

Poker buttons were bought on ebay.

Keywhiz was a leftover (must have forgot I already had one during one of my last few builds).

PC was bought on ebay too, apx $100 for a little slimline desktop thats only purpose is to run video poker/slots.

I have to cut/install a new MDF front panel with a piano hinge + reinstall the restored coin door (it will be non working however), then after making the monitor shelf its time to sand, fill, prime, fleck/texture & finally paint this bad boy.

All existing chrome (less t-molding) will be cleaned & polished back to new. I will have new plexi cut & some VERY custom red/white/blue artwork printed up for a bezel & CPO as well. Of course t-molding will be new as well  :P.

For the bezel & control panel I found my inspiration in the backglass of Sterns WPT pinball machine. Fear not WPT & Stern license holders, I said inspiration. I did a quick paintbrush cut/paste to give you all an idea of what to expect.

Overall this should be a pretty simple project when compared to arcade building.

Wish me luck!

What software are you using? Everything I see online of video poker is only trial based and it looks like junk. Plus you have to use the mouse. And to top it off they don't look authentic. The ones in vegas look like they are DOS based or something. Which is what I want.

Is the software you're using have more than one type of game? I'd like to have those multi video gambling machines that can do Black Jack, Keno, Texas Hold Em, poker and other stuff.

What about the coin thing. Do they have coin mechanisms that pay out if your winning? In coins that is, not some printed receipt like Vegas has suckingly started doing.

Software: well if need be I will go custom programming by my little brother who is in many ways out of this world (he spent his christmas money on Quantum mechanics videos at age 13).....yeah, we drink a lot & argue points of the big bang vs constantine's solidification of christianity from the isis/horus beliefs into western lifestyle stating otherwise.

Wait, you didnt ask about that, sorry.

Anyway its just a fake dollar mech with a button on it. No payouts, just a rolling total in game & something to do inbetween foosball tourneys.

Hmm, all right.

But what software are you using? And is it button button compatible since every "free trial" I've tried works only with the mouse and no option to use buttons.  ???

I played video poker on my pc using a Emulator and a Rom there was a site that had a rom dump of a few games and was explaining all the settings and how video poker is made to payout when the owner wants it too.

Only thing it didn't do was have outputs for any coin dropping mechs or whatever they are called so you can't get any prize altho it's been AGES since i used it they might have added the option

Here is a site thats like mame but for fruit machines
http://www.fruit-emu.com/forums/

Here's another it says it's a emulator but i think its a simulator
http://www.fileflash.com/program/27441/

Sorry it seems the site i originally saw was fruit machine site
http://www.fairplay-campaign.co.uk/fruit/fruit2.htm

EDIT: Ok silly me :P this is what you want it's called different things around the world e.g.

US = Slot Machine
AUS = Poker Machine
UK = Fruit Machine

For the video based stuff you will maybe want the gambling version of mame, it's a spin off that supports some of the older video based gambling games.

I think this is the link

http://www.mameworld.net/agemame/

Of course the alternative to using a mouse is a touchscreen which can work pretty well with some software.

I also like the Dwarfs Den bezel, though it really traps you for monitor size.

Love the Video Poker idea, loads of potential.  I messed around with agemame a little but had one question.  What games support mouse / touchscreen input.  I have not gotten the mouse to show up in any of the ones I have tried so far.

I guess that building the cab would be fun and challenging but after it is done  how much fun is video poker?   I can't imagine you would get any where near the enjoyment of a MAME cab... or a juke for that matter.  Or maybe I just don't care for gambling.

Dwarfs den = suckie artwork, I may keep it in storage just to laugh  >:D

I am going to use a much larger screen & order a new bezel from happ + the new artwork bezel on the plexi.

efjayel: I found a game in mame "poker ladies", its going to do for now until I fine tune some other options.

Barry Barcrest: thats some VERY helpful info, I cant wait to check that out man....thanks a million! I owe you big time broseph.

Zeosstud: Lots of downloadable PC games utilize a mouse, they are super common (although thats bad for me).....you said you messed around with agemame eh? If you want feel free to PM me with some advice or recomended games please.

miles2912: I already have quite an arcade + a few pins, the poker machine is to fill a space (literally & figuratively) & deversify my entertainment options during parties....plus its just cool once I load it with several card games  :). The slot machine is there already & a pachinko is expected for Christmas......toss in a poker top for my chess table + this video poker machine & BAM, instant poker corner.

Wait till I build my DDR project.....oh man I have so many DIY projects on my "to do" list.....when I finally have kids they better not get involved in sports or something else constructive  :laugh2:

Thanks arcadefever, I agree the $10 was a STEAL.

Just to be a cheap arse I may just use the slimline on my juke project instead & for the poker machine perhaps I can find a nearly worthless $25 desktop from craigs list.  :dunno

Guys I found a pretty good poker game for MAME, it will end up taking 12 buttons tho which sucks but perhaps I can double duty the buttons to simplify things.....yeah, I bet I can work some magic in that department. The game is called "Golden Poker Double Up" & works very well.

Anyway its pretty good but not nearly as promising as this dudes project: http://stolistic.blogspot.com/2008/01/attack-of-clones.html

Whoa, now thats what I need!!!

Looks like I need to get all biblical & cut the Dwarfs Den bezel in half....or I mean fourths (one for pinballjim, TOK, uprightbass360 & leapinlew).

Keep making fun of the og art & I just may actually use it out of spite  ;D.

Nah, thats just nuts.......I like the WPT inspired art better.

I have to breakdown, polish & reassemble one of my pins for a pending sale so it looks like I can only do a little work on the poker machine this weekend.

Happy 4th of July!
