I don't know, but I secretly believe that MS will only take token measures to prevent it. I think they know that the modding community really did a lot to push the adoption of the Xbox as a legitimate console.
Yeah, and I secretly believe now that MS is pretty well entrenched in the market, they'll start sending stormtroopers to houses of suspected modders. They cracked down on modders pretty hard on X-Box Live (from what I heard, I don't have an Xbox)
I'd wager that MS doesn't care about the community any more than they have to, and they probably don't really have to anymore. But we'll see.

Not so fast Mr. C. Xbox has never turned a profit. They are a VERY VERY VERY FAR distant second to PS2 in North America, and an abject failure in Japan. I mean a complete and utter failure in Japan. A pathetic, laughable failure. A....just kidding. Except I'm not. But I'm really kidding. By the way, that really happened.
Anyway, Microsoft still has a very long way to go. Nintendo may have been second to Microsoft in North America, but Gamecube was still quite profitable for them here. Xbox has been making a lot of progress lately in cutting its losses. It's still not turning a profit, if I'm not mistaken. If it is turning a profit that's a pretty recent development.
Microsoft will be our best friends at least throughout Xbox 360. We've got at least one more generation before Gates will pull of his Grandma mask and try to eat us.
To be clear if someone logs onto the LIVE service without first disabling his modchip he will be banned from LIVE. That's all. Modding is perfectly legal, so MS has very little recourse aside from this.
