A must have feature for future consoles!
« on: April 27, 2005, 04:47:23 pm »
In my opinion in order for gaming to really emerge as the top media gameplay footage needs to evolve. Developers could include a recording feature that would take advantage of cyberspaces ability to have an omnipresent camera. The ability to capture any shot along with some simple editing tools (including voice over, sound fx, etc) would not only bring a new a dimension to gaming as a spectator sport, but would elevate cinema by giving millions of users the chance to create and execute their stories. A kind of primitive art movement if you will. Just look at what red vs. blue has done off of a glitch.

I think you mean an in-game virtual camera, or screen capture/playback function not an eye-toy.  The eyetoy would record you playing the game as in you sitting on the couch and making weird faces as play the game.

Would make for a cool blooper real.  ;D

I'll buy the system that releases a 3-d game as good as the super nindento 2-d games.

When I said Eyetoy, I meant hardware wise.  It would be easy to write a game that took pictures of the person playing it with the Eyetoy, recorded them, and did whatever with them.

The Eyetoy is pretty cool for a while however the novelty value wears off pretty quickly.
Most people don't particularly want to be creative they want to be entertained with the minimum effort possible (Think TV) if the price of interactive gameplay is that they have to spend time setting anything up then it won't catch on with anyone except a 'hardcore' of people.

I think a useful feature I have never seen on a games console would be the ability to turn the console on and off directly from the controller to save you having to turn the thing on from the console itself, or am I just being lazy?  :)

can with xbox, assuming you rip it apart and wire a button to the controller =P

Or hook up a clapper or the like to the power cord and shove a piece of paper or a toothpick beside the power button...  :P
If there's bees in the trap I'm catching em
By the thorax and abdomen
And sanding the stingers down to a rough quill
Then I dip em in ink, and I scribble a bit
But if it they wriggle then I tickle em until they hold still
Lemme say it again
In my land of pretend
I use bees as a mf'n pen
