Hello,
I am looking for a little clarification on how to create and display a 16:9 modeline on a 4:3 SD set. Take Blasphemous as an example - I see it mentioned to use 854x480@60i (4:3 from 16:9). However, when I create this modeline with VMMaker on Win10 using an R280x, the modeline does not display black bars on the bottom or top of the display, it instead stretches vertically and shrinks horizontally to fill 4:3. Are you folks forcing your TVs into 16:9 mode with your remote/user menu/service menu - or am I missing something in my modeline generation that tells the TV that it is a 16:9 aspect ratio resolution.
What's interesting is my TV has no issue displaying 16:9 content when content is fed through Plex, or streamed via moonlight. The TV will display black bars as intended, within a 4:3 window (example, I set the display to 640 x 480 and run Plex HTPC, or open Moonlight, and 16:9 content does not request any type of resolution or mode switching, but displays correctly in 16:9, assumed within that 640 x 480 resolution). I know this because 16:9 content works this way without any 16:9 modelines installed.
So what am I missing here, how do I create a "4:3 from 16:9" modeline correctly? Thanks in advance!
