Simple JukeBox Software
« on: November 15, 2016, 11:44:56 pm »
I've released my Simple JukeBox software...

http://forums.arcaderestoration.com/topics/17-Simple-JukeBox

I couldn't find any decent Jukebox software out there.

So what do you do when that happens? You write your own.

99% of the software out there is way too much for what I want or it required a touchscreen.

I just need something to play MP3s and work in my custom Jukebox that uses buttons rather than a touch screen. I don't need something that will help organize my collection, or fill in missing information, or a host of other things. I already have software for that.

I just needed something to PLAY them and feel like a real Jukebox.

The closest product that met my needs was Virtual Music Jukebox, but it doesn't run on Windows 10 and emails to them went unanswered, so here we are.

Hi.

If you want jukebox software that acts like a jukebox with push buttons and all other real jukebox stuff then you should take a look at DWJUKEBOX.
I am using it for my home build jukebox and have found nothing else like it.

Already looked at it.  Doesn't run under Windows 10 (at least not for me)...

Hi.

I believe that some users have got DWJUKEBOX to run with Win. 10 but I think that some fiddling around may be rquired.

Well it's a moot point now since I wrote my own.

Kudos for making a Jukebox program that doesn't look like MP3 management software.

I haven't found anything since the ancient "The PC Jukebox" that I like.
Now that I rent all my music instead of buying it, I don't use the jukebox anymore.   :-\

Thanks  :D  I was running into that a lot.  The software out there either required a touch screen, looked like Media Monkey or didn't run on Windows 10.

I am working on touch screen support, just will take a little while.  I have a few ideas for it, but will take a bit of work.

good stuff
just to be clear though
have it as a option and not a must
as the oringal layout is 100% for a juke box with that kind of control
easy to do a matrix for the input switchs

Yeah, when I do it, it will still be 100% usable with the Keyboard because that's the way my Juke is set up.

You shouldn't need to.

In here:
http://forums.arcaderestoration.com/posts/t447-Download-Version-1-2

You should only need to register to post messages (cuts down on spam)

This should be a direct link to the download of Version 1.2 (but that will be out dated soon enough):

New Version uploaded with Touch Screen Support.  See the Read Me on how to turn it on.

Version 1.3
- Fixed issue with scrolling through songs when there are more than 10 songs to an album.
- Fixed issue with the Flipping of Panels not showing the correct results when flipping left and there were an odd number of albums
- Now Highlights the selected album to make it stand out more.
- Log is written on the fly to help find issues when SJB crashes.
- Now allows you to specify Resolution (UI is scaled, currently in 4:3 format.  Will look at 16:9 or 16:10 formats later)
- Now supports Touch Screen (Touching on the Current Song Panel brings up Touch Panel)
- Uses "Cancel" to clear the Filter on Albums in addition to "Escape"
- Moved Search options to their own menu (makes main menu smaller, room for more stuff later)
- Now allows you to clear the Queue from the Advanced Options menu.
- Now if you enter an album number out of range, it sets it to the max.
- Added Animations for the Panels that show up.

This software actually is very simple. Just tried it out a little bit ago and I like what I'm seeing. The main thing that has prevented me from building a touch screen jukebox cabinet is poor performing software. I'm gonna have to play around with it and try 2 different things... 1 run it as a shell, and 2, configure it in hyperspin. Hyperspin isn't very important but would be nice. Running it in a shell with a custom BIOS boot screen and custom OS boot screen on a touch screen would be a sweet setup. Ridiculously low hardware requirements make it a plus.

BTW, can you add an option to power down on exit... or is it already there and I didn't see it?

I'm thinking

  • ASRock AM1B-ITX
  • Sempron 2650 Kabini
  • Crucial Ballistix Sport 4GB
  • EUNJIN ED170 Touch monitor 17"
  • Plextor S2C 2.5" 256GB SATA III TLC Internal Solid State

Newegg is showing a grand total of about $360 for that configuration. You wouldn't need a case/keyboard/mouse (except for initial configuration). Of course, you could always VESA mount, and I didn't include power supply.

Spend another $200 or so on wood and this and that parts, amp, speakers, graphics, etc... boom, sub $500 touch screen jukebox.

Yeah, gonna play with this software some more. Got some time off finally, might just have to make me one.

Thanks, glad you like it!  As for cost, I'd be surprised if you get it for under $500.  I built my own as well and thought the same as you, but it adds up quickly.  Mine was close to $1,200 by time all was said an done.

Yeah, I'll absolutely have to do a more thorough analysis of what the components would cost. I guess it depends on what kind of sound you're looking for out of it as well. Integrated speakers or optional side speakers mounted around the room, basic 12v amp or full fledged stereo system. It can get pretty pricey... Knowing me, I would HAVE TO do something with sound pulses, LED strips, etc..

I know I want to do one though.. this software definitely makes me wanna motivate myself a little more to take doing one alot more serious then speculating... but again.. I wanna play around with it a bit more. GREAT JOB though either way.
