How to save HIGH SCORES?
« on: July 15, 2015, 12:49:46 pm »
Hi everyone. Newbie here - to the site, and MAME. So, I just recently acquired my first cabinet. Early into playing, I discovered the high scores weren't saving in games like Frogger, Pacman, DK, etc. I asked the guy who built/sold it to me. He wasn't much help. Can anyone offer any suggestions on how to implement this into the games? Thanks a lot.

What is the configuration of the cabinet? What's in it? A PC with MAME? What version of MAME? A JAMMA board/which JAMMA board etc etc

Hi. Thanks for replying. It's a MAME built into a PC running XP.

From what I can tell, it's running MAME version 0.149.0.0

There are threads on here that explain it, but basically you have to either compile your own mame with the hiscore dat or find someone who has it already compiled.  I would stick with .149 if you aren't into cataloging your roms and all that.  You can get the source code from the mame website and there is some good info on compiling on Mr. Do's website.  I don't have a 32 bit .149 compiled or I would offer to send it to you.

This is the method I recommend, but recompiling mame has a bit of a learning curve no matter how you do it.

As dkersten mentioned, I would get the files for .149 and avoid changing versions, or else you will need to update your rom files as well.

Just download binaries for groovymame .149, it already has nonag and hiscore compiled into it. You just have to turn it on in the .ini file and turn switchres off and it will act like normal mame.

Thanks to all of you for chiming in and offering solutions/suggestions. No matter what, it looks like I'm in for a large learning curve. Everything you guys said is essentially Greek to me...but I'll learn. Any further tips are greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

I've got 149 compiled with high score and no-nag, 32 bit.  If you want I can zip it up and share it with ya.
