The Lookouts (Penny Arcade)
« on: July 27, 2013, 08:11:53 pm »
Hey guys -

I'm looking for some feedback on a "Lookouts" themed art combo. Here are some images built from stuff found online.

Thoughts?

Marquee:

Side Art:

Control panel TBD(esigned).

Do the sides in burled walnut veneer and paint the logo on the side - that would be awesome.

Oh man... now you're talkin'... unfortunately, I have already installed the side panel as a white-laminated piece of MDF.

This is what I get for not having the full project planned front-to-back, but as this is my first build ever... I was more concerned about how to wire up joysticks and mount a monitor... and use a wood router... and and, regardless to say I've grown quite a bit in my tools set as well as my knowledge opening up a lot of opportunities for that inevitable second build -- just don't tell my wife yet. I need to finish #1 before I start dropping hints about #2.  ;)

Damnit, Le Chuck, you've planted the seed.

Do I need to pick up something like this and piece it together over the existing structure?

If you're just doing the sides I'd go with a faux product like a vinyl wrap as uncut sheets of the actual stuff can run several hundred dollars.  It will be easier to work with an much less an emotional event if something messes up.  Besides, you won't be sticking a grand worth of veneer on the side of a cab dedicated to a comic book.

As a long time penny arcade fan I love it. I always favored more generic art themes, but this is sweet

This image:

Might be a nice source for the controlpanel, I imagine a portrait for Player 1 and a portrait for Player 2 for example :-)

Looking sharp!  Can't wait to see it with the art on the sides.
