As I'm still waiting for my Star Wars cabaret artwork, I thought I'd crack on with my next mini cab - Burgertime.

I got a large format print of the top part. This made it easy to get an accurate profile.

Yesterday was nice and sunny so I managed to get all the woodwork done. First off, cutting the curves with the jigsaw:

Trimming the second piece with the router:

Cutting the t-molding slots:

Using the holesaw for the control panel, speaker panel and marquee top panel, which will have power and credit buttons:

Assembling the cab:

Screen and PC test:

Best progress I've ever made in one day! Artwork to follow...

Pretty much finalised the artwork. Control panel:

I searched everywhere for the original marquee artwork but all I found was a lo-res jpeg, so I made this one from scratch using the characters from the CP/bezel:

The side art on Burgertime was originally stencilled. I am going to have full vinyl sides to save the hassle of painting and stencilling:

Still got some work to do on the bezel, mainly resizing the elements to fit my scaled-down cab. More soon...

Looks fantastic!

Could you explain how you did the "large format" print for the top part? I've been wanting to do a bartop sized one of these for ages but getting the curves correct has been the sticking point.

Your artwork is top notch also, care to share them with the rest of us?

Thanks my man. I saved the artwork (just the outlines) as a PDF and got it printed at a local shop that prints up to A0 size. They only print black & white line drawings at that size, which is fine for this.

Happy to share the artwork of course. Here's the Illustrator CS4 & PDF versions of the CPO/Marquee/Bezel (PM me for JPEGS) :

Thanks a lot for that! I'll PM you later for the jpegs. This should move my project right along now.

Couple more questions if I may. Do you still have the outlines pdf? I would like to try and take that to my local shop and see if they could do the same.

How did you decide on what size for them to print it at? IIRC the mock-up I did for my bartop was just a full size reduced by 2/3 and the upper-half "cut off" a few inches below the CP. Not sure if the side art would look right cut that way but I would really like to figure those curves correctly instead of just winging it.

Just under 5 feet tall my man.

It's now had 2 primer coats and 2 black coats. Waiting on some speakers to be delivered, then I can install those along with the marquee light. More soon...

Man, you are blasting through this...and it's all top notch quality.  :)

Could you explain how you did the "large format" print for the top part? I've been wanting to do a bartop sized one of these for ages but getting the curves correct has been the sticking point.

If you don't have a local place or want to do it cheaper, I've used a program called POSTERAZOR.
http://posterazor.sourceforge.net/
It takes your image and divides it up into standard size pdf pages that you print out, then tape together.

Thanks BadMouth, that's a good alternative. I'm lucky that my local printer does A0 prints for only £3 ($5), plus I never seem to have any ink in my own printer  ;D

I just thought of a neat way to finish the speaker holes on the panel below the marquee. I had a couple of spare buttons, so I took out the spring/plunger and sawed the switch holder off.

A bit of hot glue, and they provide a nice bezel for that annoyingly catchy 8-bit Burgertime music to pipe through:

Got some of the artwork applied, here's a few shots:

Control Panel:

Here's the marquee. The top panel has a credit button plus a recessed on/off switch:

The MALA menu screen. I wanted it to be simple to understand, so the graphics speak for themselves - move up/down to choose game, press Pepper button to select:

And finally the game:

I have the sideart too, but I need to wait for the orange t-molding before applying. I'm worried the edges of the artwork will be damaged otherwise, as the vinyl will fold over slightly towards the t-molding slot. More soon...

Thanks for all the kind words guys. As I said previously, this will be on hold for a week or two until the t-molding arrives. I'll be busy back over at Jedi HQ in the meantime:

Sorry if this was mentioned already, but what monitor is in there?  Its really crisp and bright, at first I thought it was an LCD but it looks pin-cushioned like a CRT.

Thanks man, the monitor is just a bog-standard Dell. I have smoked plexi on top, then the bezel artwork, then clear plexi. I think the smoked works very well - I didn't need to make a cardboard  bezel for the monitor this way.

WOW that was quick.. Great work :applaud:..That Marquee retainer looks rather large. Is that because you use a smaller marquee that fits between the top and bottom wood piece?

Also, I wonder if black T molding below the control panel may look better. Did you consider this?
