ARGGG ... you are correct!

I have JLF's (always get LS32 and JLF's mixed up).  But I would love to put a U360/JLW into the same spot as a JLF.. can this be done??

I also noticed that the buttons are really close to the brackets on the control panel.

Personal note: I love the JLF's .. they're amazing in most games in MAME .. I'm used to HAPP's batt style joysticks .. but WOW .. shooters/fighters are much better with JLF's.. but 4 way games are HORRIBLE.  Hence why I want U360 with custom maps.

Looking at their mounting hole patterns, they're pretty close...

Opt, sweet machine! Really like it with the monitor oriented vertical.

JLF and JLW are very different.  JLF has mounting holes on the sides, JLW on the 4 corners.  JLW's are perfect drop in replacements for HAPP joysticks .. Also, JLW's require regular connectors for wire (same as Happ joysticks) where as JLF's use the more traditional Japanese single molex connector with all wires going through it.

This post shows the mounting plate dimensions laid over each other...  http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=92526.msg971893#msg971893

Pretty damn close.

And connectors are just connectors... wire cutters, parts, and crimpers will solve that.

I believe you are mistaken.

Those pictures are those of the metal mounting plates that come with the joysticks.  Sure, if I used the mounting plate, it might fit ..  but the problem is that the NAC control panel for JLF joysticks requires installation without the mounting plate.  It actually uses the screw holes on the body of the joystick to mount to the control panel.  If I were to use the mounting plate, not only will I have no way of mounting the joystick to the control panel, but the plate will actually hit the sanwa buttons.

here's an image of a JLF with the mounting plate:

http://www.paradisearcadeshop.com/en/sanwa-joysticks/12-sanwa-jlf-tp-8yt-joystick.html

Here's an image of how it's actually mounted on the control panel:

I was mistaken. In this case no, a JLW/U360 won't be a drop in replacement. But where there's a will, there's a way... But I'm still having a hard time understanding why you asked a question to which you already seemed to know the answer...

I was hoping that someone knows of some way of getting it done - either by using multiple stacked mounting plates, creating custom mounting plates, or purchasing existing JLF->JLW conversion mounting plates which I wasn't aware of.

It's been a while since I've posted to this thread. Since the last time, my cabinet multiplied!
This picture is a bit old, 'cause since then I've already re-painted the yellowed speaker panel of my second cabinet to white.

I picked up a second NAC so that I can have a dedicated vertical machine for shmups. Before I was limited to playing horizontal games on my first NAC, but now I don't have to worry about it!

Also, since then I've been collecting a few more original PCB's, mainly vertical games like shmups and the like, which made me decide to get a 1 Player panel.  Actually, I was able to rope a deal in with the second NAC to include a 1 player panel. The seller gave me a Versus City panel for an extra $10, but it needed to be converted and cleaned up. It was dirty, rusted, and the CPO was scratched. I took a photo of it's before state, but haven't been able to find it. Anyways, I ended up stripping it down, applying a repro Astro CPO to it, and wiring up a new harness so that I can keep the other harness with the 2L6B panel, for swap-ability.

**edit: for better pics

Sorry if I missed it but where did you get the chrome coin insert dealies. Mine is all yellow and I've been considering painting it white or black but those ones look badass.

I ended up buying them off another member at the Arcade Otaku forums.

But if you're looking to replace the yellowed one with a new White one, http://www.giz10p.co.uk/index.php?_a=viewProd&productId=310  has them.

I also have a spare brand-new white one, that I could sell ya. I originally had it on my cabinet, till I found the chrome one.

This is pure sweetness!  I had never seen a candy cab in person until a local shmups meetup and now really appreciate a setup like yours.

Any idea if he has any more, or where he got them?  I've been having a heck of a time trying a decent metal coin insert plate like that for months and months.  Mind sharing his name?

*EDIT:  What would be great would be either what you have, or the kind on this cab here:

http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=41860

I actually got ahold of just one of the latter (final one in seller's stock), but I need several more for some cabs I'm planning.  Any ideas?*

Thanks man. Shmups on a dedicated 1P sit-down cab is really great for concentrated play. Especially in combination of a real PCBs. It really is perfect for getting into a game and learning all it ins and outs.

Not sure where you can find them in bulk, I see them come up once and a while, but they are getting more rare. The guy I bought it off only had one.
Keep an eye out on the major arcade forum's Trading sections, they do pop up from time to time.

Ok.  Yeah, rare is right.  Thanks for the quick reply though.  I've been meaning to join Arcade Otaku and a few other places.

I think I have a link to somewhere I found that sells them on my home computer, but it's in the UK (I'm in the US) and it comes out to like $20US each plus shipping.  If I can't find anything else I guess I'll resort to that before they run out of stock too.

http://www.giz10p.co.uk/index.php  used to have them, but they've been out-of-stock for a while now. They still have the solid white ones though, which don't look too bad. But the chrome is definitely more sexy. ;)

Bumping another one of my old threads.

Here's a restored Control Panel I just finished.

A few years ago I came across an unused NOS Astro City CPO that I got for a nice price. Thinking that I'd use it to restore one of the panels I have. But I didn't realize there were different panels released, and some of the hole placements are slightly different.
The CPO I got was for a CQN-2004 version, which was manufactured for Sega by Sanwa.

I was lucky enough to find the matching panel, which had a little bit of rust on it. I ended up stripping the panel down, rust-treated it and sealed using Rustoleum rust paint.

The CQN-2004 panel has Sanwa mounting brackets as you can see by the photos.

The CPO still has the protective plastic film on it. Nice minty fresh panel for my NAC!
