Last night the family and I were plying MAME and one of my kids must have hit some buttons at the same time bringing up the main MAME control menu and changed the Master Volume control to the fire button which is Left/contrl and my fire button in alot of games. So when you play say galaga and are hitting the fire button the master control bar pops up at the bottom of the screen and for the life of me I can not remember how to get to the main menu where I can set back to default. Can someone tell me what is the default setting for master control volume? I can't remember its been months since I messed with it, I'am just drawing a blank and need a refresher. Thanks for all your help in advance.

~  (think that is what you're looking for).
YOu can always delete the default INI/cfg file and get all the default with MAME -cc

Anyone help me please, I'am not sure what the above post means by "deleting INI" cfg. I can't use Tab key no more so I can't even get to the menu to even attempt to fix this, any advice and help is appreciated.

Go into your Mame folder and look for a file called mame.ini.  Delete the file called mame.ini.

The you need to re-create your mame.ini which will have the default settings only after it's recreated.  To do that, you need to go to a command prompt and type mame -cc.

If you need help getting to the command prompt, try these threads:

Thanks I'am going to try this later today, but what is the -cc after MAME?  Heres what you have " To do that, you need to go to a command prompt and type mame -cc. " So if I follow what you say, this will fix it where I can use the "tab" key to get the menu? Is there anything else I should know? I am using the X-arcade controller panel if this matters at all? Thanks

Just tried it with no luck, it says it can't find "mame -cc", so now what do I do here?  I type in mame -cc and it cannot find it, but if I type C:/mame -cc it takes me to Mame.exe file where the  gridlee.zip file but nothing is in it. What do I do? The ini folder is gone and can not seem to get it to work. I went into DOS and typed a command and it cannot find mame -cc either, so what now? Thanks for all help but getting frustrated. Its MameUI32 0.136 if that matters. Thanks

Did you change your directory in the "dos" window to your Mame directory?

Did you read any of the threads that I posted links to?

In this thread, I walk someone through it.

http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=99676.0

If you're in the right directory, try mame.exe -cc instead.  That's exactly what you type.  Type "mame.exe -cc" without the quotes.  Then you go back into the directory in Windows and you should have a mame.ini file.

Or launch a game, hit Tab, and the menu will pop up.

I just did exactly as you stated here, step by step ^^ . How do I change a directory? What do you mean by dos window? Real confused now. Heres what I did I went to my mameui32 folder clicked it and got all the folders and looked for the "ini" folder, I right clicked it and clicked "delete" so folder got deleted. So now I went to the start button and clicked, then clicked run, hen I typed mame -cc and then it says cannot find files, so to see what happens I typed in cmd and it to me to dos command center, and same results here to. when I type mame.exe I get a empty folder, my mame.exe folder is empty it has a gridlee.zip but its empty too. I have a mamui32 folder. I'am not sure what file or folder is a mame -cc but dont have it., I'am a lost newbie here.

Follow the thread above and see if it helps. I helped someone in the same boat and he could do it. I am sure you can too. Post if you have problems AFTER you read the thread and try it. It shows how to get to the right directory.

I read and followed what you have said, on cd/ enter and so on, but still nothing I went back to folder and ini folder is still gone so I did exactly as was mentioned and my control panel is not working at all because of the ini file missing. Mame -cc dont work, mame.exe -cc dont work it say no external or internal commands recognized for both,  mameui32 -cc that works I mean it draws no errors but when I go back to the folder theres no ini folder either so what to do know?

Keep trying and same results are taking place...nothing. What about the default.cfg. files. I can't use the "tab" key either and just read where it said to delete the default.cfg. folder and it will come back. Why are the helpful tips not explaining correctly "will come back as default" what by magic!  Does not say to re-create and the wild goose chase I'am on. Damn wife and son just mashing buttons to get the menu off the screen. F*&ked everything up!

Answer the following please:

What OS are you using (Win 98, ME, 2000, XP, Vista, 7 or something else)?

Tell me where your Mame32 folder is located (i.e. C: or C:/Mydocuments/Emulation or D:/porn/sheepongoat or where) please.

This will be easy to fix but it's going to take just a little work.

windows 2000  I'am using a MALA front end,  c:/MameUI32, but I just click on the c: drive to get to the folders, I dont get there on the prompt command. I have a short cut on the desktop I click to go directly to Mala as well. I dont get the tab key work either while in game so was reading where It said to delete cfg file I did. So your playing say "Galaga" and hitting the fire button the master control volume pops up on the bottom of screen. I need to re-map this but my Tab dont work, the X-arcade instructions to get to the main window is simotaneously hitting the coin up button and player 1, now this dont work either.

ok update--after deleting the cfg file I am able to use tab key and get to mapping the keys, but for mater volume control dont know how to go about changing to where it is not my fire/action button. I also can only play the games in windows and not in Mala, if I play Mala front end I cant use my X-arcade only the keyboard, what else do I need to do to get my X-arcade control panel to work with Mala? Thanks

Ok update Hoopz---I had to type "mameui32 -cc" then went to directory and "walla" an ini file/folder, but my x-arcade is not working now. Some help is appreciated, thanks

So I still can't get the "unable to initialize Direct 3D" window that pops up any ideas on what to do. I did all the tests for direct 3D and direct draw and all pass the test, it's just the window keeps popping up when click on a game. Thanks
