I can play it with my i7 920 OC'd to 3.6 GHz, but it still lags sometimes.  You can also try the Dreamcast version...

I think if you haver this CPU it might just work.

Let us know how the games runs if you have or planning to get one

I have that CPU.
I will have to locate the CHD
for this particular game
and I'll get back to you.

Ok,
just tried Gauntlet Dark Legacy.
Played to the Dragon Boss which is where
it began to stutter.
I haven't overclocked the CPU at all,
so I don't know if that would resolve
the boss slow down.

try lowering down your samplerate to 22 instead of default 44. Lets see if that helps a bit.

Out of the box that processor is 3.33 GHz and pricey as hell. There are many core II duos and I5's that overclock easily past 4.0 GHz and from I read Mame is optimized for 2 cores on 64 bit. I'm not an expert and someone can shoot me down if I'm wrong. But if you got it running decent(ish) on that stock processor then what of 4.0 GHz plus? I don't have the CHDs for that game yet but it is a title I'm interested in.

I'm not sure if your asking me,
as I haven't any experience over clocking yet,
and I'm not sure I want to test it on something
I had to save up money for a long time to get.

My guess is that if you clocked it to 4.0 it
wouldn't sputter a bit.
