pull out ddr?may be impossible
lightguns?seem hard
spinners? seems hard to justify the cost
trackball? hard to justify cost
to keep wiring simple this is going to be USBhell

Not entirely true.   Since LCD monitors are relatively low in weight, one could make it so that the monitor rose up a few inches when you rotated the CP.

There could be a wave-like path on the outside edges of the CP, that 2 roller bearings sat on... and as you rotated the CP, the height of the path would change... thus the monitor height would change to match it.  The monitor holder could be on slide rails for easier sliding... or merely use some plastic runners for less friction.

Instead of bearing auto-adjust, you could just manually lift it with a side lever, pull handle, rope system, motor lift, or other similar option.

Other options, if you do not care about monitor -vs- CP heights,  are to use a slotted material, like a strip-cut bottom-weighted curtain, which would adjust to high controllers sliding past it.

Still, the cab will have to be slightly deeper to accommodate the extra diameter of the taller controllers.

Ok, so I've just started ordering parts on a cab that has been so far mostly vapourware, the look and theme of it has changed many times, all without ever being written down so I've decided now that parts are being bidded from and artwork ordered i should make a project announcement thread.

I've taken the name of the cab from the popular web series http://www.redvsblue.com.
the reason for doing is I love the series, and that more often then not player 1 and 2 are colored red and blue, and out of all games i have ever played, its always been multiplayer games that i have loved the most

I plan on having a 27" ish screen, a rotatable control panel and some interesting lighting effects I havn't seen done previously.

If i use any of the ideas you have come up with please take it as flattery, as I've grown as a teenager wishing I had the cash to start, watching all the AMAZING innovation that has happened.

So on to business. and hope to see you on the other side.

The guys over at www.aussiearcade.com.au have convinced me to use a TV tube with a JOMAC chassis attached as my monitor, I'm currently bidding on ebay to find a suitable TV that is pickup only in adelaide.

I also have started a bid over at www.rentacoder.com for some vector art that will be used for the sideart. its a line stencil like drawing of the master chief from the halo video games.
this will be cut out of some thin wood that will end up being used in a wood plastic ply that will be lit up from behind, with the idea being when the machine is off it will be plain black with no visible art and when on a sort of anti-silhouette will shine through.

left side red, right side blue.

also the lighting will be controlled either by a LED wiz or a similar  led driver i build myself, depends if i can get my head around the api's and plugins front ends and things are using.

attached image to explain the ply business.

black is wood, clear is plastic that light will shine through, circle is a placeholder until work at rentacoder.com is completed.

I went the same way, but reversed: blue vs red, and obviously for a different reason.

Got a crummy pic with a prototype CP here

Good luck w/ the build.

You've got quite the list of mods to do.... Are you doing all of these, or are they just ideas floating around?

so far planning to do them all eventually(cost, time, and effort permitting) as long as they don't clash.
another to add on the list,
ond's joystick lighting, (i actually had thought of this but ond's come up with it seperatley and already implemented it so credit is to him.)

Also considering my sidepanels are going to be a plastic wood ply, would they still be strong enough to use as support?

I'm thinking there is definitely going to have to have some support structure, but how to do this with the rotating control panel?
