Model 2 emulator with light gun
« on: May 15, 2010, 10:40:04 pm »
Well after many, many failed attempts to calibrate my new ultimarc light gun module I finally got it to work...So today I started to set up some of my games for it..Anyway, when I try to play an M2 emulated game the game itself tells me to shoot off screen to reload but when I try it, it wont reload..No settings in the control mapping for it either..Anyone have an answer ?  Thanks...

There's probably no fix.....  I know mame had to install special code to handle modern lightguns ages ago and I don't have a clue if the model 2 emulator has similar code installed.  I honestly doubt it.  Sorry.  :(

Just a suggestion..... instead of shooting off-screen just cover the lense of the gun completely.  You'd be suprised how far away a ir gun can be pointd and still see the sensor bar.

Hey thanks I'll give that a try...I'm wondering if I can do a "hotkey" type thing ? I know nothing about keyboard emulation..As a matter of fact I know nothing about emulation as far as programming...But does anyone know if the "left mouse" button matches anything on a keyboard ? Maybe I can map it that way...I did a little searching but it seems that most of the reading I'm doing on that was written by a programmer so pretty hard to understand...

 Hey,

You may have to update to the latest M2 Emulator.
There is a place to configure after game is selected.
(may have to configure properly in Aimtrack software as well)

Hope this helps!

Yes, I do see where you can can configure the keys after the game is selected...I need to see what version I'm running..Only been messing with the M2 emu for a couple months and almost always try the most current if I can...Controls option is pretty much limited to using a key board or game pad...The game runs great for the first 5 or 6 shots until I have to reload then it wont recognize an "off screen" shot for reload...Ive got my gun set up minimally with the Aimtrak software settings for the trigger with both tabs set as a "left" mouse button..I don't have any other microswitches installed and it works great in MAME...I'm wondering if I can use XPADDER in this case ?

Thanks for the info

Well I'll have to take a look to remember exactly how its all set.
( I'm on a different PC now )
I can say for a Fact I can play House of The Dead without Xpadder
or anything of the like.

Oh and the Cool part... Works with both guns.
Yep Both guns are fully playable with Cursors enabled and all!  ;)

Yeah I worked with it a little last night...I am running the most current I think v .9 and I added the second mouse just to see if it would work and it did (two cursors)...I'm thinking my gun may need another micro switch...Im guessing with only one switch no matter what I try to set in the aimtrak settings it will only work as a right or left mouse button and not both....

Besides that you will need two switches in most games.  All analog gun games have at least two triggers.... many of the sega shooters have a foot pedal, ect......  Only the plain vanilla "true" lightgun games from the 90's and before use just one button.

Anyone know if the model 2 emulator works with the Actlabs guns?

I'm pretty sure I read that Actlabs will work...I have one and actually really like it in mame...My cab is set up with a CRT monitor and I use it ..I just hate the white flash every time I pull the trigger...Cant use it with my new set up though..I'm running out to my 46" LCD so thats why I went with the Aimtrak...I had a ton and I mean a ton of problems getting the Aimtrak to calibrate but I'm pretty sure when I lifted the TV straight with the wall instead of pointing toward the ground is what was causing the calibration problems...Just a simple tilt of the wall mount ended 3 weeks of problems....

Old thread bump.

It sounds like you guys got 2 aimtraks working with the Model 2 emulator.

I can get 1 working, but when I switch UseRawInput on, I get two cursors, but when I set it up to use the aimtraks, the cursor just bounces around to the 4 corners of the screen.  If I set it to use my trackball or mouse, the cursors move fine.

I know this thread is VERY old. lol.  But I'm having similar issues with the M2 emulator.  I am using the AimTrak gun, which works great with MAME.  Playing House of the Dead on the M2 emulator is frustrating because many times when I need to shoot off screen to reload, the emulator goes behind the frontend (hyperspin).  I have full screen enabled, but i did read that it's not a true full screen, but rather a zoom.  I'm using the latest build of the emulator.
I just can't believe that with so many shooters on this system, this emulator would be built in a way where off screen reloading is near impossible to do without messing up the game.  So maybe it's something I'm doing wrong...not sure.

Guess I'm just hoping someone who knows about this emulator can maybe give me a suggestion on how to fix this?

There seem to be a few issues with loss of focus when using hyperspin and model 2 emulation.  Does it all work OK if you run it outside of Hyperspin?  The one bit of advise that is constant is to run the Model 2 emulator at the same resolution as Hyperspin.  It may be possible to solve this issue with an AHK file, but it may be best if someone else can advise on that one.  (I seen some crazy stuff done with ahk round here  :applaud: :applaud:)

thanks for the suggestion.  i set the screen res to be the same as hyperspin, also my desktop.  in and out of hyperspin i was still having the same problems with off screen reloading.  in the cfg, i changed forcesync 0, to 1.  i dont know what this does but now it seems much better. also, i noticed off screen reloading on the left side of my screen hardly ever causes problems.  strange...but true.
i was over at the sega m2 emulator forums and it doesnt look like a new one will be coming out. there was a 1.1 w.i.p., but now theyre saying the writer of that is now actually working for sega, so he wont release it.  i dunno. it sucks because quite a few of these shooters are buggy. like Behind Enemy Lines...my gun works and i can hear it shooting, but see no bullets or crosshair movement.  not to mention the loosing focus issue many people experience with these games.
well...thank again for your help.
