Has anyone ordered more than 2 guns?

I'd like to put in an order for 6 and have them shipped 3-day UPS, but I'm worried that they might get held in customs since they don't have FCC approval yet (as RandyT cautioned). Just wondering what a 'safe' number would be to order.

Yeah... EMS shipped mine direct... Hong Kong to UK...  Total cost including the gun for normal Air Mail post was USD$49.99  If you're in the UK then that's a shade over

aljupy - I ordered my two guns from playasia on Saturday and the order status is still "Order Received" (and its tuesday afternoon now). The expected deilivery date still says February 1st but I suspect this is wrong. I'm going to wait a few days before I email them as they are possibly on holiday for the Chinese new year (although if they are they should really post a message on their front page).

Keep your fingers crossed !

Thanks BUKS. I Did order on Sunday and my Status is "Payment received". I

There's a minijack input on the bottom of the gun (where you normally would insert a clip) which I presume is there to hook up to an external footsitch.
see thi spic: http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=48982.0;attach=36253

I don't know if it's possible though to change the ingame settings so you can use that input as a trigger.

Screwing it open and rewiring the trigger to the external jack wouldn't be impossible I think...

Ooooo, minijack good.....  These seem to get better all the time.  I ordered one last night so when I get it I'll try to post some pics of the innards,  I'll be testing it on a Mac  as well so I'll let ya know how/if that works.

I received mine today...one thing I noticed contrary to what others have said is that there are two very small 'stand' pieces of plastic, which slot into the LED stands so they can be stood on a table (I think).  The only thing is that this requires the red LED to be at the bottom of the stands, and the cables are at the top, which seems odd...maybe these things aren't really meant as stands, but I can't see another use.

Haven't had chance to try them yet as I'm at work...will be on the case when I get home...

They will fit in that little slot as you thought (forcing the red led at the bottom) but they are not large enough to keep the stand upright (just falls over) so I don't believe they are stands in that sense.....

I just picked up a 2nd hand copy of HOTD3 for the PC. Installs fine, looks great but bizarelly will not recognise the mouse buttons. Can move around but not fire! Keyboard works ok. Really odd....

Note this is without the guns even plugged in, playing with mouse.

Well I got mine to stand up on my desk, but I agree they are far from stable!  God knows what this is really for...

Edit: I think I've got it...I reckon these things are for 'hanging' the stands off the top/sides of your monitor.  I just tried it, and it even worked on my laptop (it is on a desk stand which raises it somewhat).  It makes sense they will be the other way around (red LED at the top, cables at the bottom)

Ah.... as they are upside down... could they be for hooking over the top of the monitor? That would make more sense, and keep them straight....

Just checked playasia and my order status has changed to :

# Preparing order

Your payment has been cleared and we are preparing your order now. In most cases your order will be dispatched within the mentioned "ETA" as shown in your order details page. You will receive a confirmation e-mail once your order has been sent out.

Whoot Whoot ! Should be here in a few days !

Incidently (and back on topic !) I mounted my Guncon2 guns using 2 pieces of short (but quite thick) dowel 9painteed black to match the lower section of my cab). One piece of dowel sits inside the trigger of the gun and the other is for the barrell to sit on. Pretty strudy too - but probably not as good as a holster. I'm hoping the lcd guns will sit on the same dowels otherwise I need to drill some more holes.

OK I've given mine a quick try...here's what I did:

1) Place stands suitably (I had to tape them to the side of my laptop screen)
2) Plug in gun & stands
3) Calibrate gun (hold A+B buttons, and see manual: http://www.hkems.com/product/xbox/TopGunUserGuide.htm )
4) Install WinGun ( http://guncon.acornscity.com/ ) - thanks Acorn
5) Set 'lightgun_device lightgun' in mame.ini
6) Run a game, map the trigger/buttons and play!

So far I'm pretty impressed :)  I had a small problem calibrating the gun, but this is because firstly I bodged the LED stands on a bit wonky, and also as I can't really get far enough from the screen in my small office.  Now it is OK but slightly off compared with the aim of the gun itself - but again I am sure this is due to the poor temporary setup I used.

The recoil action is a bit weedy as someone said, but I'm fairly pleased with that too...certainly better than vibration.  The laser sight is a nice bonus and useful for calibration but I doubt I will use this with my cab once setup properly.

So far Operation Wolf, Space Gun, Point Blank & Zero Point all worked very well!  ;D

The reason I asked is because he is the author of MameAnalog+. Might help to get him involved?

I think some people have been after 'updates' as analogmame is currently at mame ver 0.83. Although if there are no games requiring its extra features then it may not be needed.

From what I can see, analogmame works perfectly. It requires HID-mouse devices to be present in the system, and will allow seperate mappable control in mame, which regular mame can not do.

My current issue(s):

Smogs Guncon driver makes the lightguns appears as HID-mice, Acorn's does not.

Acorn's driver calibrates in windows perfectly, allowing precise control of the mouse cursor by either gun.

On my system, Smog's does not calibrate well - the driver seems to flip into a crazy mode 50-75% of the time where you can't control the mouse by anything, and when working, I can not get the cursor to line up well in windows like I can with Acorn's.

jpark, le2 and gollygho do not appear to play well.

jpark appears to have position related acceleration (viewable when using a mouse).
le2 and gollygho appearslinear. They track extremely well, just offset by a huge 7 inches. There does not seem to be a calibration screen for the guns. I would be interested to see how the guns were calibrated on a real system.

as for the 7 inches off on calibration, i heard of someone physically changing code to make up for poor in game calibration.  i think it was in regards to star wars.  he had calibrated, but it always wandered about an inch off, so he edited the code and it worked.  i'll try to find the post for more info, but it might be possible to do.  it sounds like were going to need to make a patch for mame...

I think this earlier post should answer your question.

When all this started I emailed them about min. distances for those of us who might want to use the guns in a desktop setting.
They indicated the effective minimum range was 2 x width of the LED stands.  So 44" away if they sat aside my 24" Dell (22" wide).

Question, do the LED stands have bases for sitting on desktops or must they be physically attached to the sides of a monitor.

Its probably this post:

http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=36359.0

involved with the centering of the target for use with joysticks/gamepads. He mentions gollyghost and le2 specifically, and as these 2 track well but are off-centre, it sounds plausable that the same thing happens. It appears that mame is taking the co-ords from the gun, and offseting them by a set amount. I don't have a recent compile environment setup at the moment, but I'll take a look when I get a chance.

Hey, I have found a DOWNSIDE in this gun.....it IS NOT   KONAMI/NORMAL  lightguns compatible LOL   ;D :D

Yeah, I knew this the moment I saw that the gun didn't have a regular PS1 controller connector (only the USB one).  The Guncon1 PS1 games and the non-Guncon PS1 games only work with a lightgun that has a non-USB controller connector (regular PS1/2 controller type).  It is a shame, but you can't have everything.

I tried reading all the pages but I only got to page 9  :P
Received 2 guns this afternoon and want to use them later tonight for MAME only as I don't have any pc gun games.
What drivers do I use and do I have to use some other sort of MAME for 2 guns to work?
I use WinXP and regular win version of MAME.

Thanks all...

I have Mame Analog+ working for MarbleMadness and Atari Football, as you know.
My question is are you using a combination of MameAnalog+ and Acorn's driver to get two guns working or are you JUST uing Acorn's driver for both guns??

I ask because I am about to set up my guns tonight.

Thx
Mark

The reason I asked is because he is the author of MameAnalog+. Might help to get him involved?

I think some people have been after 'updates' as analogmame is currently at mame ver 0.83. Although if there are no games requiring its extra features then it may not be needed.

From what I can see, analogmame works perfectly. It requires HID-mouse devices to be present in the system, and will allow seperate mappable control in mame, which regular mame can not do.

My current issue(s):

Two guns will work fine in lots of games using regular mame (with certain options) and Acorn's WinGun.

Specifically, its games that don't track that work this way. This gets round mames 1 mouse restriction (I think) by only reading the co-ordinates when a trigger is pressed, and then working out which gun fired by which mouse buttong is pressed (it assigns mouse buttons 1+2 to gun 1, buttons 3+4 to gun 2). There are issues with this system - if both players fire exactly the same time for instance. (Longer term I think it best to use analogmame style solution for all 2p lightgun games).

Anologmame is only required in instance like you use it for - dual mice (trackaball) inputs at the same time. Games such as terminator2 (2 guns that need to track all the time). To do this, you MUST use Smogs Guncon driver (not acorns) as his driver presents the guns as HID-mice to the system (Acorn's doesn't - his reads the data from the guns, and then passes it to the single system mouse).  And then use analogmame, select mouse1 for p1 and mouse2 for p2, and bingo you are away.

Now I am even more cornfused  ???

Mark

I will try one gun tonight then go from there.
Can you post your Analog+ ini options since you have the guns working in Analog+? I could never get the Act Labs guns working together in Analog+ so I gave up.  It would be nice to have the options that work before I start.

I think I opened my gob too soon...seem to be having problems with the gun on my cab now:

Basically I have now tried Acorns, Smogs and the EMS drivers...here's the probs...

Acorn: Had a bit of trouble calibrating, but managed to get the Windows cursor moving.  However in MAME the crosshair will not move from the edges...it flicks between all 4 edges of the screen but no-where in between.  Also the gun is not always recognised...in fact I can't get it to be recognised at all any more.

Smog: Similar to above, with the same problem in MAME.  The cursor seems to move quickest out of the 3 drivers.

EMS: Seems to work pretty well (with the Gun2Mouse v1.0 software)...but doesn't work at all in MAME.

I've verified mouse works OK in MAME throughout...seems like it must be a MAME config issue but it doesn't make much sense as the mouse works.  My cab is using an ArcadeVGA with arcade monitor, which I don't think should really affect anything.  I'm running everything at 640x480 just in case low resolutions cause any probs.

I'll see if I can get it to work on my desktop PC and try to track down the problem...

Edit: FWIW I'm running WinXP SP1 & MAME v0.99

I just pluged mine in. I got the USB port from the gun cable going into a D-Link powered hub. Then I have the LED stands hooked up to the gun cable. Win XP recognizes that I pluged in the gun (one gun right now by the way) and wants drivers. I get the install new hadware screen. What are ya'll doing at that first screen? What drivers, if any, should I install at this first point?

And on my gun I have a little switch on the bottom that says x/p on one side and NOTHING on the other side. So now I read this, Please follow the figures below to set up the LCD TopGun system. Note that you have to switch the button at the bottom to P for PC / PS2

Tried MagDog (PC version) and it works just fine.

Where did you buy this game? i'd kill for a copy, same story with the sega pc titles, cant find it anywhere...  :(

Amazon sells it.

i bought it a few months ago, and was not very satisfied.  The timing of the video seemed off.  I was often shot before the video even started.  (I was playing with a mouse)

Got to try it with one of these guns.

Well I cannot even get into calibration mode. I tried everything................These guns are not looking good.
The box says hold A and B down for 3 secs then shoot the top left LED light. I do that and nothing happens. The gun is supposed to recoil if it works. It don't. Anyone ese have this problem??

I've made some progress...

Tried Smogs driver first on my (XP SP2) desktop and it blue-screened...tried again and it installed but the mouse cursor is stuck way down by the Start button - neither mouse or gun work.

So, back to Acorns driver which works well first time.  But then I had the same problem as on my cab in MAME.  I have no idea what setting is messing things up but I deleted my mame.ini and mame-cc'd a new one...now it works great :)  So I just need to compare mame.ini's from my desktop and cab and see what the problem exactly is...
