Best Album of...

Topic done to death, but I'm actually thinking about it right now.

I can't come up with a better album from the 90s than Appetite for Destruction.

Oooh, I was looking at the CD release date.  Ooops.  The CD was released in October of 1990... the other formats in '87.  My bad.   :-[

I never did get the big deal about GNR. Sure they were good but they weren't that great.

Off the top of my head . . . Radiohead The Bends or Jane's Addiction Ritual De la Habitual both are better efforts than Appetite.

edit: I totally spaced Niravana's Nevermind

2nd edit: Oh crap! Dr Dre The Chronic. Okay I'll stop now.

The main problem I have with Nirvana is that the Boston rock stations play them more than even current music.  At least 15% of the airplay is Nirvana, another 10% is Metallica.  It has gotten to the point that the two bands are annoying because it's overplayed radio crap.

The Beatles? Led Zeppelin IV? So I take it we have just abandoned the whole "albums from the 90's" thing?

If so, then Pink Floyd Dark Side Of The Moon

Pavement - Slanted & Enchanted
Radiohead - OK Computer
Britney Spears - Baby One More Time  (Just Kidding)

And yeah, I think Nirvana - Nevermind is probably the most important album of the nineties

Oh yeah, I gotta second Neutral Milk Hotel's In The Aeroplane Over The Sea.  That album is amazing.

Best of the 90's:

Radiohead - OK Computer
Sonic Youth - Goo
Beck - Mutations
Pixies - Trompe le Monde/Bossanova
Nirvana - Nevermind
Janes Addiction - Ritual de lo Habitual
Prodigy - Music For The Jilted Generation (Agreed, JoyMonkey!!)
Melvins - Stonerwitch and/or Bullhead
Social Distortion - Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell
NIN - Pretty Hate Machine (released in '89)

I could *never* pick just one album....but if I had to, I'd pick Nevermind. Bleach is one of my favorites, but Nevermind broke the mold. Not only did it change the way I thought about life/music, it changed the entire landscape of Rock for everyone in America. No doubt in my mind that Nirvana's influence destroyed the lame hairbands (at least for a while), while renewing the awe and respect one should have for the old dinosaurs like Sabbath, Beatles, et al..

Beck - Mutations

I can't stand Mutations! I bought it as soon as it hit the shelves, thinking that the  instant beauty of Odelay would be rejuvenated once again. Instead I found it painfully boring. I think I only listened to it once. Maybe just because is was the exact opposite of what I was hoping for. I saw Beck a year later and was delighted that he wasn't carrying any Mutations material in his live set.

Edit Pixies definitely gets monkeythumbs up.

But to me Nirvana doesn't belong in the "music gods" column in my book nor would I like to be stuck on a deserted island listening to Nirvana's Nevermind CD.
But if you look at who influenced a lot of the newer rock bands coming out now you'll find most of them were influenced by Kurt Cobain and Nirvana.

The reason nobody wants to talk about the 90's is because the 90's

was the end of the TRUE ROCKSTARS.

AXL ROSE was the last true ROCKSTAR.

By that i mean ?

The kind of ROCKSTAR that people think of in their head.

Throwing TV's out the HOTEL windows.

Fighting

getting arrested    ETC.....

The only reason KURT COBAIN will become a legend is because his

life ended too early.  (By his own doing)

thus making you a shoe in to be a legend.

Most of the BANDS in the 90's and Now

have no idea what it is like to put on a real ROCK CONCERT.

Example:  You have FAN's sueing LIMP BIZKIT and CREED

They feel they got ripped off because they paid so much for a ticket

and received no kind of a show for their $$$$$

No band going today in my opinion will ever become legendary

Their are too many HERE today,  Gone tomorrow acts out there.

Flavor of the week acts.  If you will ?

If you wanna go see a real ROCK CONCERT go check out the

MOTLEY CRUE reunion tour going on right now.

That is a real ROCK CONCERT and worth every penny!

That is why it is #1 TOUR right now.

Also another good ALBUM and TOUR to catch is VELVET REVOLVER.

If you think about it?

It is pretty SAD that guys in their 40's are still selling out shows

and putting on better concerts than guys in their 20's

That should tell you something about the music scene today?

PS.    JANES ADDICTION  was and is WAAAAAAY  Better than  NIRVANVA ...

Thank you for your time.    :)

I listened to the show about Cobain conspiracy theories.  And I believe Country had something to do with his death as he was going to leave her... Regardless he's death...
You must really hate country music. and how did country music make Kurt Cobain the Grim Reaper?
