Night Damn Ranger Yankees are next!

Anyone have "Beer Barrel Polka" on CD?

I think everyone's gotta have an "Oompa Oompa" type polka band on their jukebox.  Something nice and German....with an accordian, preferably.

I don't say anything negative about Nirvana, per se.  I personally don't like their music, but I think it's pretty much because they were the first really popular band to come along after I started getting so old that I didn't understand the stuff the "kids" were listening to.   ;)

Nothing against Nirvana here either.  I just think Nevermind is just a teensie-tiny bit overrated.

...so is Pet Sounds.  But that's a diffrerent topic...

Nevermind, though, was a cool album (it was only the 2nd CD I ever owned... the first being The Wall) and at the time it was different, raw, full of energy and angst and, as such, was a nice change from the cheesy hair metal bands, the lame hip-hop acts (the in-between period of rap when it was all gimmicky, lightweight rhymes... watch "Fear of a Black Hat" for further info), and the faltering pop scene.  Then MTV took the alternative sound, played it in heavy rotation (this was still at a time when MTV was playing videos more often than tripe) and commercialized it to the point where every song on the album was "the millionenth time you heard it this week".

Suddenly, all these grunge bands came out of the woodwork and for every Pearl Jam there were a handful of 'also-rans' sporting an unwashed look and a healthy contempt for establishment.  I don't blame Cobain and Co. for this, but Nevermind, ultimately, did not age well in my opinion.

...neither did Pet Sounds.  But I won't drag the Beach Boys into this.

Well, anyway, I'm 2 cents poorer.

Yeah, I'll never be one to call RATT, Poison, Warrant, et. al. "Heavy Metal".  They are 80's hair bands.  I just happen to *like* 80's hair bands since I came of age in the 80's.

Actually, I can visualize Lemmy doing "Talk Dirty To Me", but doing so in a far FAR different way than Poison did it, and having it sound good.

The 80's could have influenced people in many different ways, and hair bands were simply one of 'em.

A nice diversion, they were.

Anything by Steel Dragon.

I'll throw in my support for HEAVY METAL *insert devil's-hand thingy here*
And I'm talking about the glitzy, bighair, pyro-packed, whammy-bar lovin' metal.

All those bands passed through here in the 80's-early 90's and I saw every one of them. I still go to a lot of concerts but nothing compares to those shows.

CRUE next month, sold out in every city up here...and we've got a big-ass new arena...gonna SHAKE.

Here's a good conspiracy page for Cobain

Being married to Courtney Love, wouldn't you kill yourself too?

On a lighter note...

Old joke from just after he passed:
Q: What color eye's did Kurt Cobain have?

Going to see Great White tomorrow night actually.
They donate a portion of their proceeds to the victims/families of that fire at their show 2 years ago.

Love White Lion, Mike Tramp was through here not long ago.

I thought I was the only one to have heard of Mike Tramp.

I saw him in southern Ohio in 2000 or 2001.  He did a couple WLion songs but was trying to get away from it to play his original stuff.  I liked the show a lot and every 6 months or so I think about trying to locate the CD to buy it.   I talked to the guitarist afterwards (can't remember his name) and talked music for a while.  He was very cool, but Mike never came out from backstage.   I think he was annoyed at a couple bozos who kept yelling "Play Radar Love!" (which I personaly don't even like WL's version of)
