Author Topic: Getting Aimtrak Light Gun to Work with Big Buck Hunter Arcade PC Version (Read 12443 times)

Hey guys,
Hopefully someone can help with this issue.. in short.. I can shoot and reload with the aimtrak gun but cannot move.. I have to use the mouse pad to move and the gun to shoot.. not sure why as the aimtrak gun acts like a mouse, but for whatever reason it just doesn't move.. it works with other shooters like HOD2 and 3.. anything I am missing here?

Did you check your mame settings?

Did you contact Andy from Ultimarc?

I have no idea but I hope you fix the issue. Let us know in case someone else stumbles on the same issue.

Did you got this one solved? I have the very same problem with the aimtrak working perfectly in menus but in-game for shooting and reload, cant move the crosshair, only witht the mouse itself. And this is not a MAME title but the Big Buck Hunter Arcade for PC

Any help appreciated

Never tried this one, But do you have a regular mouse plugged in?

I just wonder if it defaults to the 1st mouse?

Does it have a multi mouse setting??

Hmm.. I just have a BT keyboard + mouse-combo. No multimouse to switch on. It should have raw mouse option like "Blue Estate" has.

Strange thing is that all the menu control works flawlessly with both mouse and Aimtrak but well in the shooting mode, only mouse works for aiming

Just had another random thought...

Is your AT set up to emulate a joystick instead of a mouse in the AT utility?

Yeah! Strange indeed!

Works like a charm until you get into the shooting part of the game.
Checked and I do have the aimtrak util setup to act as mouse

Took a video of the problem here

Just for shits and giggles try dissconecting your kb/mouse combo so it only has the AT as a mouse device.

That should then rule out if its a 1 mouse/conflict type issue.

hehe had to try just in case but same results sadly

Read on the steampage that they did not have support for raw input, so I guess that's why, but strange as you can shoot just fine within the menus.

I was just reading up on it to.

Apparently the game is full of stupid bugs, glitches and missed opportunities!

Maybe worth playing the original on MAME instead?

You have to set it up in multiple places to make it work sometimes.

Make sure you enable the dual mouse option in mame. Then choose the input option in the INI (try it as a mouse first and then a lightgun if that doesn't work). Then, in the individual game controls, make sure it is set to use either first or second mouse (depending on which it thinks the aimtrak is).

You should also try switching the USB ports and unplugging any other analog controls. Mame seems to get confused sometimes when too many controllers are connected at the same time. My joystick and Aimtrak stop working when my Logitech racing wheel is connected for reasons I don't fully understand. It just decides that the d-pad on the wheel should replace the joystick controls I set up....

If all that fails, start again with a different version of mame.

If you mean that you want to use the pump action in the game there is no problem to assign if you have a gun with pump handle. Here's my TEK AND BBB on MAME

All versions of the original arcade variants are PC based. I really want someone (else) to take a chance by buying one of the arcade I/O boards to use the light gun on a PC to see if it works in Windows (like the Usb2gun) or if it only works with the Big Buck Hunter arcade.

There are a number of PC based arcades with USB guns. We just need someone with access to try one for us.

Please stop. Nobody has the time to do this process properly. This is BYOAC. We have to build our own controllers to play this game. I just use a wii mote and it works, but no it is too simple and we have to use an aimtrak to get the desired effect. Besides it is ported on every platform and you do not have to be accurate on the targeting of the game, you be off by 2 feet and it wouldn't matter, especially if you are in cosplay.

Speak for yourself...

This site is full of people who take on elaborate and time consuming arcade projects. Converting real arcade controls for home use is a key focus of this site.

Plus, no real light gun fan would ever be happy using a Wii remote or ever say that accuracy doesn't matter. It is the only thing that does.

Playing light gun games with crosshairs on-screen instead of line of site aiming completely changes the feel of the game and makes it significantly less enjoyable.

I was thinking the same. With all the arcade collectors on forums like this, surely one person has a PC based gun game they could try with mame for us...

There is a good number of them that use USB I/O boards. So far, the only one I know of that anyone here has tried with mame is the America's army USB2GUN board. We know that one works with mame so why not some of the others?

The USB2GUN boards are sold out and impossible to get these days but the Target Terror and Big Buck Hunter I/O boards are USB and plentiful on eBay.

For people that don't use a CRT there are plenty of arcade USB IR gun that have not been tried yet. Terminator Salvation and Big Buck Hunter HD, for example, both use USB guns.

Even if those games required special drivers, surely the code for such drivers would be on the recovery discs for this games...

Hi - I suffered a dropped hard drive and lost my only copy of the light gun mystery wizard patch
