Poker to Ultracade conversion any Suggestions?
« on: November 05, 2010, 09:47:54 am »
I just got an old video poker cabinet from a friend on Wednesday and I want to turn it into an arcade machine for my kid. I ordered new t moulding last night. I have to fill some holes and paint the cabinet. I'm going to paint it black. This is my first attempt at anything like this. I've read a few other posts and would like to know what paint people prefer to use. Which paint puts the nicest finish on the cabinet? And do I use wood filler or I think people say they've used some automotive stuff? Bondo or something? I have a couple 19 inch LCDs and I have an X- Arcade Dual Panel to mount on the cabinet. Is there a site that sells cabinet stickers? I have a computer with ultracade installed and I was going to put in another computer running some kind of MAME setup on a KVM switch to toggle between the two for a greater variety of games. I'd like to put some kind of lighted Marquee on top for the Arcade look. I do have a silverStrike Bowling One , I just need to measure the width and see how it looks. Any suggestions would be appreciated

No X-arcade please !

Gut the x-arcade if you want and build your own CP...

the cabinet looks ok to me... better to have a pc inside..

I'm almost done with the wood word and patching holes. Should I prime her? What's the best paint to use?

You should work out how your control panel and monitor are going to be incorporated before painting it, in case you have to hack it or add a few pieces.

I used rustoleum bedliner with rustoleum clearcoat over it on the dashboard of my driving cab and I think it would look good on a cab.
The texture isn't as thick as you'd think.  It resembles black textured laminate.  One $8 can of bedliner would probably do your cab (+ 1 can each primer & clearcoat).

I discussed everything in this thread: http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=106365.0

SO I USED THE TRUCK BEDLINER BLACK AND IT CAME OUT SMOOTH, NICE FINISH. I'LL HAVE TO TRY IT AGAIN WHEN I BUILD A CONTROL PANEL FOR THE CABINET AND A TOP FOR A MARQUEE. I WANT TO ADD A TRACKBALL AND IVE GOT BAGS OF PARTS PLENTY OF BUTTONS AND JOYSTICKS TO POPULATE A PANEL. ILL WAIT UNTIL SPRING WHEN THE WEATHER IS WARM. THE WIFE WONT ALLOW ANY PROJECTS IN THE HOUSE WITH A SEVEN MONTH OLD CRAWLING AROUND. THE OTHER DAY I WENT AROUND THE CORNER FOR FIVE SECONDS AND SHE CRAWLED OVER AND PUT A SCREW IN HER MOUTH. THAT AND I HAVE TO PAINT OUT DOORS, THAT STUFF STINKS!

The chrome & black look nice.  I knew the bedliner work well.  ;)
Some chrome t-molding on the x-arcade would make it look more integrated if you wanted to go to the time & expense.
Of course, not as good as a custom CP.

I think a plexi bezel over the whole monitor area with artwork on it would look good & eliminate the need for a marquee.
(kinda like space invaders, but with less room at the top)

Yeah, I have some spare chrome and was considering it but Im going to save it for when I build my own panel. Ive been trying to find Williams classic multigame art or something else that went with the gamepacks I have installed. Ultracade art is impossible to find. Im happy its just together and out of the garage for now.

that looks like it will be nice sit down cab. I like the small size and shape. Def build your own panel. Theres really nothing to it.  :burgerking:

I just used like six angle brackets. Three inside and three out. If you open the bottom of the Xarcade you'll see there is nothing mounted to the bottom panel, so it's safe to screw into. The Xarcade fits perfectly in-between the two walls of my cabinet so it kind of wedges itself there. The front panel door of my cabinet folds down to open and the Xarcade comes down with it. I'll try to get some pictures up this week.
