Found an awesome new keyboard/mouse alternative for cabinets
« on: November 25, 2009, 08:45:58 am »
I read engadget on a daily basis and this morning they posted a link to this new wireless mini keyboard/touch pad controller of sorts

http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/25/wireless-usb-keyboard-touchpad-is-more-than-the-sum-of-its-par/

I think this might be a great alternative to having a lock door with a keyboard/mouse inside for our mame cabinets!

Its literally like a little blackberry or something. pretty sweet! though id share

Awww... you beat me to posting about this...

Actually they're asking $40 plus shipping: http://efo.buy-lowest.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=180

Sounds like a deal to me. I think I might place an order later this evening.

I thought it would be cool to mount this laser keyboard and let it shine on the control panel in a designated area. Of course you would need to It would only work when you turned it on and needed it of course.... Hide it behind the bezel with a little slot to shine through.. Would be cool on a nice black CPO with a litte extra space above the buttons.

I've been thinking of getting something for my driving cab to allow for PC games that don't have nice arcade interfaces.  This might be just the ticket!  When you guys get your unit's PLEASE post a review.

Perhaps I should have phrased my review request differently.  I saw that there were some already available for these things, but they are primarily focused on standard PC usage.  I'm primarily interested in how they work with an MAME cab.  I'm sure they work, but work well enough to be worth the investment for this purpose would be useful info.

That is cool!  Is the receiving unit "line of sight" or could I stick it inside the cab?

It's RF, so no, you don't need line of sight.

I'll probably put this on my Christmas list.

I figured that something like this would be more practical.

maybe.. but most of us are used to typing on that size keyboards via our phones and that is huge compared to this little one. I guess everyone has a diff opinion but I love the tiny size myself. I ordered a white one

Any chance of this working for Xbox 360? Would be nice to use the Twitter or Facebook apps they put on there with one of these.

So... Most of you have never owned a laptop?

The Xbox 360 for lots of things supports standard USB keyboards, I dunno about FaceBook or Twitter, but it supports it for dashboard and MSN Live conversations.  So if keyboard support is carried over and this thing interfaces as a generic USB keyboard, it'd work on a 360, yes.

thats good to but the whole purpose is to make it less of a hassel and less space wasted. With the mini you dont need a pull out keyboard draw you can probably velcro it to the top of the cab out of the way, UNLESS you'll be surfing the net but Most people with a MAME cab dont use it for the internet

Why doesn't thinkgeek date their ---smurfin--- articles?

If the product worked as advertised, it wasn't a scam. It not catching on is a matter of public naivete. You losing on that is your own deal.

Anyways, I can't see using this device for surfing because I type too much - and I hate finger mouses anyways. Not accurate enough. For a cab.....I dunno if it's worth that. That's what I keep usb peripherals around for. Besides, how often are you going to use it that you need to keep batteries in it?

These look neat.  Only question I have is does it do all the kb keys, like the function keys and tab?  I know you could remap them in MAME anyway, but Im still curious.
