New guy checking in
« on: July 08, 2009, 10:22:36 am »
New guy checking in, I stumbled across this board while looking for info on what else arcade games.

I have been a gamer going back to the pong days and have tried to save/collect many of the older systems from the electronics graveyard.

Used to have a Popeye cocktail unit but it was lost many a year ago started to look for a  Ms. Pac Man for the wife and was looking at rebuilding one well life happens and now I,m back again 12 years later.

I have 2 cabs a roundup and no name that are going to be converted into mame cabinets since they were empty when I bought them  :(

This will be my first foray into building a cab so I'm reading the FAQ and getting ready!

Thanks for reading!

Thanks for the welcome guys!

Well the cabs are not much to look at they are very dusty just waiting till the weather clears some to work on them.

The one plain cab is a odd one I will get some pics of for you all and maybe you can tell me more about it.

It has no rear door and like a large pull out section connected to the CP shelf.

The kick front has been fixed with nails that split the board so its coming out new strips will go in and two part front I think will replace it.
The upper with the coin door will be removable to get in the cab since there is no back door.

I might have a pic from where I bought the cabs from let me look...

I can believe it! LOL

I went with all intentions of getting 3-4 cabs to start out with (overkill I know but wanted to save fuel ) and wound up getting the top 2 the dig dug cab had good art but the wood was like  rubber inside and break very very easy.

Round up with bad side showing

Unknown cab made in Chicago Indiana

Sad dig dug

Gorf cabinet I was tempted but couldn't bring myself to mame it

Welcome to the forums. Probably jumping the gun here but I think the second cabinet will make for a better MAME platform - although a slightly unusual shape it looks in good condition, already has a large control panel area (great for adding more controls), has an exterior more suited to treating, laminating etc. and what looks like a larger monitor area. Once you're done with these, try your hand at building your own to truly be initiated here, then move on to resto's....

I agree with the second cab being first I think, the reason I even started looking again to build a machine was a way to put all the spare parts I had around to good use.

Smaller cabs will have 17inch monitors and older pc's loaded up with some classics and given off to friends and family the larger cab will get a 22' Mitsubishi Diamond Plus 200 I have taking up room.
I bought a pallet of pcs and monitors a couple of years back so I have been slowly but surely finding homes for them all.

After that maybe another mame or probably getting a couple unmolested arcade units or  maybe a pinball hmmmm  ;D

Well the first cab could work too with a minor jig saw to the sides where a larger control panel will be placed.

Looks fun!

I am going to extend it out some I think vs cutting but we will see.

The second cab is a real mystery to me the area you see for a control panel is made to slide out, its like a large tray with guides on the inside of the cab.

There is a coin counter on the left side but no real obvious mounting spots.

I tried googling the address but no company came up when I can I will see about getting some more pics.

The tray may have held the game board perhaps.
