I have this ATI rage128 Pro (16mb) that I just can't find drivers for the life of me for. So I use it as a back-up in special cases. Tonight I needed it again, and while I had it in I had this wild idea to just try to run Advancemame. See, normally when a card's drivers haven't been installed, it will have trouble scrolling folders. But not this card, hence the idea.

Well, to my surprise, games ran. Zowie! This was on a 17" Dell PC monitor - 1.6ghz P4 running XP, hence win Advancemame. Note that the clock settings were 0-50 / 31-36 / 90-130 . Also, that Congo Bongo image is actually rotated. I rotated the game display image so that it was running vertically, and interestingly Advancemame sized it perfect.

Just went downstairs to get the disc, and realized it's a rage IIc, not a Rage 128 Pro. Sorry about that. But I did find these pages:

Win 98:
http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/legacy-98me.aspx

Win2K:
http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/legacy-2k.aspx

Not sure if that'll get you what you want, but it's worth a shot. Sorry about the misinfo... :dunno

Mmm. I've tried all kinds of win98 and XP drivers from all over the place. Last night, while trying to install the XP ones I got from AMD, the install wizard kept crashing. Some other error or what-have-you would pop up with '98 drivers, but I'll give those a look. Thanks.

if you use DOS Advmame, you don't need drivers. This is the card I use before with Advmame before getting AVGA.
It worked very nice.

I'm using Win Advancemame, though. I should've thought to specify.  Yeah, the drivers would be nice. Especially if they'll work for XP, but likely they're win98 drivers.

found CD. gimme e-mail. It's W98xx drivers.

I  u use plain DOS in Advmame, u don't need. I used that card b-4 with Advmame in PLAIN DOS and with Arcade Monitors (15khz). The version of Advmame was 059.

Why does it say Rage 128 Pro on the card if it isn't that card?

Yeah, I know, but I find it very interesting that it works in Windows without drivers.

I'm not getting your question. Elaborate, please.

The Rage 128 drivers are preinstalled into Windows XP, even without SP1, though they lack OGL acceleration.

More importantly, how can you turn your monitor sideways and it works?  I turn a 21" Trintron on it's side to play Ikaruga correctly and it goes all crazy due to the change of orientation. :/

OH. Well there ya go. Monitor orientation change: press the magical genie button. It goes by some weird name called De-gauss.

Well, I just tried out an Nvidia 6800, and I get screwy signal regardless of drivers. And it's the same brand as my 6200, so it seems the latter is the highest card that works.
