Vs Super Mario Bros
« on: February 19, 2009, 10:09:20 pm »
Well I've got a question and I fear the answer but since I intend to fully restore my cab I have to ask.

I recently purchased a Vs Super Mario Bros at an auction. Everything works perfectly... except the sound. The speaker makes a buzzing sound and if you turn it up it makes a screeching sound (I know its the speaker as I've played with the sound and plugged/unplugged it). Soo... thoughts from people who have had similar problems?

you'll probably get a better response from the main forum, but I probably would have posted here too.  Sorry I can't be more helpful.

The audio amplifier circuit board is mounted on the video monitor. It needs to be recapped. Bob Roberts sells a kit for it.

Ditto what Ken said....fairly common problem.

(I know its the speaker as I've played with the sound and plugged/unplugged it)

Have you tried another speaker just for testing purposes then ?
(just about anything would work to test with)

Worst case scenario would be a game board problem.

two things to add to this;

1) I did try another speaker and I get the same thing

2) I removed the speaker, turned the sound up, and I can actually hear sound (very low) coming from the game, whats that all about?

am I to assume this is the kit then, Nintendo Audio Board Repair Kit    $5.00   (its under Sanyo)

You are probably hearing bits of sound bleeding from the amplifier circuit especially if have it turned all the way up.
(not sure what else to call it, I'm sure there's a more technical explanation)

Are the sounds more normal to the game sounds?

And yes, that would be the audio board repair kit for the Sanyo 20EZ monitor.
(assuming you have the 20EZ)

Yes the sounds are very close to the normal sounds (perhaps a bit distorted). It caught me off guard thats for sure. I was playing and I'm telling the Mrs that I must be going nuts because I just took out the speaker and yet I'm hearing the sound.... it had me going for a bit.

As for which monitor it is.... I'm currently attempting to find that out. I know its mounted sideways (vertical perhaps?) but I don't see a tag/stamp telling me which it is.

And if it is a Sanyo 20EZ you'll find something to that effect stamped in the metal frame rails.
(something like 20EZV or so, I forget now)

Yup, that's a Sanyo 20EZV

The small board with the fat grey cable in your first pic is the audio board.
