Check your local Sam's Club if you have one nearby.  They have some pretty decent pneumatic height adjustable, basic black models for <$50 (IIRC).  I bought a couple for the workshop and they are very sturdy and comfortable.  No backrest though, if that's something that's important to you.

Spencer's also has closeout deals on "themed" stools from time to time.

Looking at a pair of these Bombo bar stools.  They have about any color to match you cab.  I'd like the blue to match my cab but the wife says black since the cab is in the living room, LOL.  $116 delivered isn't too bad either.

We got the kind you see in arcades (the kind Happ carries) from a craigslist posting (my wife got them!). $65 for 3. Of course, I told my wife that means we need at least 3 cabs. ;D
My Collection: Mame cab, 38 dedicated vids, pin, skeeball, coin op air hockey table, Ice Cold Beer, Megatouch, 2 token machines, and payphone (VAPS, pics at Arcade Crusade)

I got mine at my local Ikea.  You can order it online too if you don't have any near you.

I didn't want to upset the wifey by buying expensive ones (needed 2) since I had already sunk tons of money into the arcade.  So I picked up these.

25" = $14.99 each
29" = $16.99 each

http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/60049739

I have the 29" versions, since the BOTTOM of my CP is 36" off of the ground.  But a buddy of mine has the 25" version for his Donkey Kong machine.  They are very comfortable and they are stackable too.

About the IKEA tractor, it's not bar height. It is just 40-48 cm or so, like normal office chairs.

It may not suit an upright, but for Aussies, there's only one real choice - the good old Caroma stool.

I've got two waiting to be used that I won at a quiz night :)

Harbor Freight sells "flame" stools cheap (like $19.95 or something).  They work decent enough.  Walmart also has folding stools super cheap.  I'd love to find a formed plastic stool from the 70's though.

I just bought two last weekend (at Ikea):

http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/00091731

and this one at 25" height:

http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/20050800

I like the second one better.  It's nice leather... very compact.  The "compactness" was important to be because I don't have much room in the area where I plan on placing the arcade.  It's also nice to be able to sit on it in any direction.... something that the first chair (above) lacks.
... Why is it that you always find it in the last place that you look? ...

Funny that you should mention that - Caroma is better known for making toilets. I don't live too far away from its factory/warehouse (not sure which), and the toilets are stacked up high always. No idea if they make the stools there though ;)

Well I picked up a stool that I'm pretty happy with. I had a $10.00 off coupon to Bed bath and beyond and found this stool. It folds up so I can put it off to the side so it doesn't take up too much floor space.

Very cool that you found one.

You also may want to check Linens and Things, as they are going out of business.

I was using just plain ol' wooden circular stools but they had to go.  After sitting there for awhile your ass gets numb.  So I opted to upgrade to a wider stool that was padded.  Something like the pic below but with a padded seat.  They are great and you can play for hours without ever getting up......except to get more beer, or gin and tonic......you get the idea.

The more I think about how much I'll be standing at my cabinet, the more I'm thinking about picking up some barstools myself. Maybe I'll check Weekends Only, and see what deals they have.

If your serious about gaming, you need a real stool.

How the hell are you going to beat world records on those toilet-less/food-less chairs?

Thats where I got mine.  I think they cost about $65 for the pair.  Pretty good deal.  They are almost too wide, they actually stick out a little past the edge of the CP when placed butted together but again......comfortable.  I hate the ass numbing feeling.   I'm 6'3" and about 235 lbs. so wide works for me.

Have to say that with this design, I'd be concerned about where the food supplies come from ;)
