I wish that article would have accurately described Pachinko. They made it sound like it was pinball (which it technically is, because it has pins and balls), but in reality it is more like a slot machine.
Acceptance of Zen philosophy is marred slightly by the nagging thought that if all things are interconnected, then all things must be in some way involved with Pauly Shore.

Well, you know how today's pinball came about?  Basically pins and a ball.

I think the only interaction in pachinko is....pouring balls into the hopper or something...??

that and chain-smoking yourself to an early grave.

There is a small amount of interaction.  The knob is kind of an analog control in that the farther you twist it back, the more force the spring has that flings the balls out of the chute.  You just have to hold it there though, the rest is automatic.

But you got the smoking part nailed :)

I used to have an older Pachinko machine that had a pull handle instead of one of those electronic ones.. my guess is they came out with electronic ones so you can launch the balls/waste your money quicker :D

It was a lot like pinball, though.. no slots or video, just try to land your balls in the traps.. kind of like a mini-Plinko machine :P
