ok after finding out that you need some permit or something from bmi for a jukebox in a business since it considered a public performance, do you need some legal s&*t for having a arcade machine or 2 in your business?  I mean the real deal not mame cabs.

You might, especially if it's not on freeplay. I've seen some places that had little tags on the machine (usually on the marquee) with a license from the city or county. At least I remember seeing them "back in the day"

I always look at it this way. If its a legit way to make some money, someone wants a piece of it.
I say that your town/county wants a piece of it by getting a license for it.

But this really blows me away....I'm not making any money from this but town wants some $$$.
I paid to get my ROOF fixed but I had to PAY my town some $$$ to get a permit to do it....  :censored:

I want to get my house looking a little prettier, but had to pay license to do it  :soapbox:

Yes jukeboxes absolutely positively MUST have a copyright license purchased and displayed on the jukebox. This is a yearly license fee (quite expensive too) and you get it from the Jukebox License Office.

As to licenses for coin operated amusement machines, it varies upon your locality. Some areas may have city, county, and state licenses to pay, some may have city and state licenses, some may have city or state licenses, and some may have no licenses at all. You have to contact ALL your local government offices. Even if your locality has no "per machine" license, you will still absolutely need a business license to operate the 'amusement devices' and you better have insurance too. If someone gets hurt playing your machines they can legally sue you.
