I'm guessing the "Conical" model refers to having the cone-shaped actuator in this pic.  Most of the microswitched-based Wico sticks came with a square actuator instead.  The cylinder shaped actuator is from a leafswitch stick.

So where the Wico sticks considered the best of the best of joysticks? That's kind of what I've been hearing. Too bad they're no logner around.

i personally like my jsticks alot. the praise i usually see for wico is usually for the leaf style not microswitch. that makes them very adjustable. ive never used one only a tstick and a jstick. the throw on tstick was to short but after using the jstick i see no point in switching to something else. they feel great.

IMO, the wico microswitch 8 way is the best 8way stick you can get. It's built like a tank, plus wico balltop shafts are plug and play.

I can't comment on the microswitch sticks, but I have a panel with two Wico 8-way leafs in it, and I like them a lot. They've been used in an arcade for many thousands of games and abused. And, they're still good.

Your labeling is correct.  Sadly, I've never seen a complete example of the conical model- just the actuators.  So I don't know if they added microswitch levers like you would find on a Happ Super.  The more common ones with the square actuator used switches with no lever.

Not just a 4-way mode. The conical actuator is for a different stick. They simply sell the 4-way and 8-way stuff in one bag so they don't need to stock 2 different types of handles where only one simple part is diferent.

Like with the cheap chinese knock-off Wico's they claim to be 4-way and 8-way since they include a 4-way / 8-way joystick handle kit. Trouble is, the restrictor plate is diamond shaped for a 4-way stick so it doesn't work as an 8-way stick.

yes

conical actuator is only for microswich 8way version. different shape reduce engagement and diagonals. but this is not  true 4way mode. It this works similarly to HappUltimate 8/4way.
I have WicoP360 and Leaf swicth. I should have also microswich version.

the best thing in wico joysticks: it was it been possible to pin over base assembly and to create hybrids - Wico 8wayspring action base+P360+4way assembly

the largest Wico defect: they crunch. shaft comes in  pivot (or ring) too loosely. these elements are bad fitting.

Ehm, are you sure you bought an actual Wico stick? If you bought a 4-way/8-way with a diamond restricter plate (for around $10 or less) then you bought the chinese knock-off

Kowal:

If you're having trouble with unwanted joystick slop due to the gap between the handle and the grommet, you can tighten it up with some tape wrapped around the handle.

I always use tapes  but the problem of tape, the joystick does not turn.
shaft should be wider about 0,3 mm.

I measured 5 wico bases and handles. In all cases the grommet hole is slightly less than 9.5mm in diameter and the shaft is slightly less than 9.4mm in diameter. In all there is a 0.1mm gap. When the handle is "fastened" to the base the give is just about unnoticable.

I had some of the chinese clones and they had a 0.7mm gap. Now that was bad. I needed two layers of duct tape to get them to be even remotely playable.

original...

shaft (9,45mm) and pivot (9,65mm) is metal . this will suffice to 0,2mm difference caused crunching. Fanta (and all corean sticks) has similar building but internal pivot cylinder  is plastick - amortizes shaft better. they do not crunch.
