Coop Superhero Games -- any more?
« on: November 17, 2007, 06:41:48 am »
I've been playing Spider-Man the Arcade game with my 4 year-old and we've
been having a blast.  It's even made him develop an interest in the Sub-Mariner.
Been wondering what other comic book/superhero games are out there
that offer good co-op play.  It doesn't even have to be the "best", b/c
at 4 years old it all looks cool :)

My list so far:
Arcade:
Spider-Man
X-Men (4 players)
Captain America and the Avengers
The Punisher (haven't tried this w/ him yet, waiting a bit)
Superman

SNES/Genesis:
Adventures of Batman and Robin
Spider-Man Maximum Carnage

Thanks for any help!

Vid, my 4 yo daughter loves "Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon", for which there is also a Japanese-style cartoon series (available in English).  Episode one makes reference to the new Sailor Moon video game at the arcades ;)

Of course, that is more for the girls than the boys ....

I play Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter with my 5 year old.  The Spiderman series for PS2 is pretty good as well.

Don't those require a huge number of buttons for accurate play?

Thanks, all!

Arcade:
Spider-Man
X-Men (4 players)
Captain America and the Avengers
The Punisher (haven't tried this w/ him yet, waiting a bit)
Superman
Teenage Mutant Ninja turtles -- whoops, left this one off the list, yeah we play that too
Simpsons
Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon -- hey, I forgot about this one!  Cool.
Wild West C.O.W.Boys of Moo Mesa -- Awesome, not comic book but feels like one

Warriors of Fate -- not comic book, but we like this one

Genesis:
Adventures of Batman and Robin
Spider-Man Maximum Carnage -- not 2 player

SNES:
Adventures of Batman and Robin -- not 2 player, only Gen version is (weird)
Spider-Man Maximum Carnage -- not 2 player
Spider-Man / Venom Separation Anxiety

PC

Cadillacs & Dinosaurs originally had a companion comic book series too.  It is one of my fave coop games, though I've never seen the comics.

Fun thread.  My 5 year old and I have played many of those titles on our arcade over the years.  My 8 year old daughter and I have completed Sailor Moon a bunch as well.  You may want to try Battletoads and the Dungeon and Dragon titles - lots o fun as well.  And MUGEN allows you to fight together if that's your thing (lots of comic book characters to choose from).

As an aside, you mention Marvel Alliance.  Awesome game and my boy and I have a great time playing it together on the 360.  But I wonder if it marks the end of playing on the arcade together.  Tough to compete with the in-game movies/graphics/sounds/etc.

Awesome.  Right up there w/ Moo Mesa.

I just found and tried a game called Shadow Force this weekend...
had mucho fun w/ my son.  It's fairly generic but the play and
graphics were great.  Will post a review of it soon in the Reviews
forum.

Zeb - yeah, I thought about Cadillacs and Dinosaurs after you
mentioned it... I think I may even have one of those comics around
here someplace...

nobody said Bucky O'hare.  Shame on you guys.
Back in MY day we lived on the moon and we had to build a rocket ship from scratch to get to the Earth before we suffocated.

If you want a great two-player coop "cartoony-shmup" to add to your list, try:

Space Invaders '95

It is a cack  :laugh2: (that is Aussie for hilariously good fun, as in "you cack yourself laughing")

Little kids love it because it is very colourful, has good music and it moves through different levels very quickly.  You can get through the entire game in about 1/2 hour or so.

Finally tried Sp Invaders 95... you were right, it was much fun
It did keep us entertained but I think my 4 yr old lost interest
after 20 minutes (and I don't  think we were 2/3 of the way through).
I liked the graphics a lot... if there was an update like this for
Missile Command I might not have bought the CD version (see my
Revew)
