Smaller arcade buttons... Where are they?
« on: November 05, 2007, 11:22:56 am »
In the past, I have seen posts about smaller arcade buttons (ie, smaller than the normal 1 1/8" pushbuttons), but I cannot find details.

I found a few from RadioShack, but they don't look arcade-y... they look too radio shack-y.  :'(

I want to use them as admin buttons on a small control panel I am working on.

Any ideas?
Thanks.

Kremmit picked up some buttons that looked like small Happ buttons awhile back, but I don't know where he got them from.
IIRC, they were only available in black, but that would work nicely for admin buttons anyway.

Kremmit?

Amazing recall, NoOne.  I sent Kremmit a PM as well.  He was going to check with the distributor, but that was a long time ago.

Those look promising, lcddream.  I am looking for black buttons, but if I cannot find black ones, might have to go with red/white.

You could surround the red ones with black/yellow stripes and text that says "don't touch these buttons".
That's sure to attract some attention to them.

Hahaha.. "Whatever you do, don't press this button."  Think MikeDeuce or Pongo can print some of those up?  ;D

Did you see these ones at the shack?

I've used these in the past for admin buttons...
I like the look of the black ones.

Black: Item# 275-644
http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062508&cp

Red/Black: Item# 275-646
http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062510&cp

If the links don't work just search for the Item #'s at www.radioshack.com

I used some normal quick disconnects and squeezed them with a pliers
and jammed them on there with no problems... no soldering

I thought they came in packs of three, but I think just one per pack now.

These also fit perfectly in those three button control panels inside some coin doors.

Those are the ones I use for thumb buttons on my DOT/Xeno sticks.

The ones I had were the same as the ones linked up at ArcadeDepot (above), but all black.  No word back from my old supplier so far.  It was like 2 years ago, so  :dunno

I wonder if you could hit the ArcadeDepot ones with some vinyl dye?

There's a place in Toronto called Supremetronic that had smaller arcade style buttons.  I don't recall what the actual size was, but they were definitely smaller than the standard size that we're all used to here.  They're not all tall like the arcadedepot ones, but they looked more like the HAPP units.  I don't recall the actuating mechanism.  It's been about a year since I was there.  I don't remember what colours they had, but I do know they didn't have black)

Kremmit - I sent an email to ArcadeDepot to see if they have any black mini buttons.  You never know...

DaOld Man - do you have any pics of those buttons in your cab?  Would they work in 3/4" MDF?  Hard to tell how tall they are.

Thanks, guys.

Hello edge,
Yes I have a pic..
I had to use my router to cut out the wood down to about a 1/4 inch, maybe less. The switch mounts through the plastic and through the wood.
First pic is two of them, using as mouse clicks.
Second pic shows how I routed out the spaces for them.
I used 3/4" MDF.

Edited to clarify second picture. This is the backside of the control panel, before painting.

If I didn't know any better I would say that they are Sanwa OBSN 24mm buttons from Japan.  Heck I would bet that they are from Sanwa and Happ is just reselling them.
