What emulators are people running on their cabs?
« on: June 03, 2007, 06:29:12 am »
I've got UncleT's Mala How To guide, where he lists the several dozen different emulators he runs in his cab.

How many other people run this many emulators? What are the "main" emulators people have on their cabs?

I'm just wondering if there is enough of a point tracking down all these emulators, roms, snaps etc for these systems, or if there are too few unique games to warrant the effort?

Real difficult that one.  The emulator of choice is MAME but for the external games like console, the old hardware lile Atari 2600 are run from the PCs or the Xbox.

I have a lot of consoles I have bought over the years, and they go in the cabinet ( or my soon to be revamped cabinet ) with my X Arcade.

My Original Xbox has most of the emulators including Daphne and Amiga titles as it works without too much hassle.  Plus I can watch the odd movie between breaks, also it makes the PC redundant so its one less item to boost my electricity bill.

So it depends on what you have in your collection, and how much you really spend time playing it that will be the deciding factor.

If it is software emulation you are after, name the platforms you want to play and we will give you best choice.  But my suggestion is to do some research on Google as this subject has been asked many times before.
If I had only one wish, it would be for three more wishes.

Keep in mind I have young children, so they tend to like the Atari 2600, 5200, 7800, Gameboy, Gameboy Advanced, Nintendo, etc... emulated games.

My personal favorites are as follows:

Mame
Visual Pinball
Daphne
Nintendo 64
Sega CD
Super Nintendo
3DO

I have a bunch installed but the ones I mainly play are:

Mame
Nintendo (Nestopia)
Visual Pinball (mainly Addams Family! & Medieval Madness)
Super Nintendo (Zsnes)
Sega Genesis (Fusion)
Atari 5200 (MESS) <- 5200 over 2600 because I only had a handful of 2600 games and a bunch of 5200 games so I remember them better

As for N64, I have many games listed but I only really play Goldeneye with an N64 controller, same with Daphne, I have them working but I only play Dragon's Lair, so far anyways

UncleT, I noticed you aren't running and Commodore 64 emulator, even though you seem to run every other known emulator :P

I am looking at the following emulators so far:
MAME (duh)
daphne, cos I wouldn't mind Dragon's Lair
visual pinball, just to see if I like it

I never had a NES / SNES / Sega so don't think I'm so keen on them.

The thing is you need to decide your consoles before you can plan your FE graphics...

I use MAME, SNES, GB and NES.  I'm going to add Visual Pinball, 2600, 5200 and Daphne to my next cab though... and probably some computer games like YDKJ or something.

Haha... yeah.  I'm always planning one cab ahead it seems.  My wife is going to kill me.  I made good progress this past weekend on Bella's Arcade - I can see the finish line now.  I'll be posting some (crappy) pics of the finish later today...

If you like the way your first cab comes out and had fun building it, why not build another?  I'm betting this won't be the last cabinet you build...

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that I also have PC games configured on my cabinet.  I also have the YDKJ (You Dont Know Jack) games as well as some Fishing Frenzy games for my kids ..... they really loev those games a lot.

Anubis_au
I originally tried to get Commodore 64 working with an emulator called "CCS64"  I think ... could be wrong  .... it was a long time ago.    Anyway, I never could get it working so I gave up on it since the games seemed like something I would not be playing anyway.   Pretty much just got frustated and moved on.    I was very close at giving up on the Commodore Amiga emulator WinUAE as well ...... that (to me) was a pain in the butt to set up.   Perhaps it was because I ended up going through a couple thousands of games and only found a couple hundred which were worth keeping.   I spent "way" too much time on the Amiga and would never do that again....
