Spinner Games
« on: May 21, 2007, 11:38:32 am »
I'm deciding if I want to put a spinner in my CP.  Is there a list of games that use the spinner?  I want to make sure there are games I want to play before I stick one on there.

Go to MAWS: http://www.mameworld.net/maws/
and perform a 'deluxe search' and select control = 'dial' or 'paddle'.

Any breakout type games, driving games can use it as a sort of really tiny steering wheel.

But I personally have one word for you:

Cameltry.

And on that last, where the hell is this DOT we've been promised by someone for two years, now. Anyone tried out the Blackhawk?

I'd really love for RandyT to make a good push/pull spinner along the lines of their TT2.

I was thinking about building my own using the Blackhawke as a model.
I have plenty of room under my control panel, so I think I could make it work.

Definitely get a spinner for your CP!!!!

I got a spinner long before I got a trackball (although that is also a must-have IMO). A spinner is the only play to play games like Tempest and Tron. And don't forget Discs of Tron, a terrific game that is virtually unplayable, unless you have a push/pull spinner.

Apache Controls makes the Blackhawk which is a push/pull that I have had for a long time now and absolutely love it. It's a very high-quality piece (unlike many of the offerings from other manufacturers). Check it out, you will not be disappointed:

Also check out the Retroblast review for tons of detailed info:

And a video of it too:

I'll second Eric's and Retroblasts's reviews of the Apache Spinner.   It is probably overlooked because people do not see them regularly but it is a first class spinner and one of the best for DOT.   I only have it in a temporary mount to check it out but cannot wait to put it in a permanent CP.

I like to use my trackball for DOT and would like a spinner with some similar kind of optical set-up for up/down, so haven't gone with the Blackhawk. Though of my own design, but forgot what it was or if it was even conceptually functional. Been a couple years.
