wizard of war joystick leafs
« on: January 19, 2007, 07:48:12 pm »
Is there anywhere to get the 'dual switch' leafs used on the Wizard Of Wor joysitcks?  These had 4 leafs, 3 of which were contacts (making 2 switches).  Is the only place ebay if (big if) someone posts some for sale?

Thanks,
Rick

You can make your own by altering a Pac-stick.
The Midway leafswitches are a bunch of pieces put together, so you can kind of mix-and-match to get what you need.

You can try this place and see if you can find what you want. They have many different types of leaf switches.

Can't believe the site is still online ... Wico closed a year ago.

I do wonder if some pinball suppliers might have suitable switches.

Looking at Wico's online catalog, there are some canidates:

p.141 - Data East double button switch #122SW0022
p.146 - Gottlieb flipper button switch (used after 1991) #GA26054 0.00
p.146 - Gottlieb leaf switch #GA28693 $3.99
p.156 - Williams flipper switch (SW1A192) #122SW0011 $2.89
p.157 - Williams button switch (SW1010A11) #122SW0021 $4.49
p.157 - Williams button switch (SW1010A13) #122SW0022 $5.09
p.157 - Williams switch (SW2010A) #122SW0023 $3.99

I've attached a pic from the net of the bottom of the (what I believe to be is) original joystick.  I also attached a pic of some of the choices of Williams leafs.  I got a pacman joystick here, maybe I'll give some of these a try...  Well, looking at them again, the choices seem like they would be too long and hit the other leafs....  hmmmm

Should I assume that the originals are not available?  Does it matter if one of these will work?

The originals ARE available.
That's what I said in my first post.
You simply need to buy two Pac-sticks, or a Pac-stick and a Xeno-stick, etc...
What you need are the extra spacer and leaf for each direction, stolen from the second stick.

I have built a WOW stick by adding extra leafs to a Pac-stick.
One thing that did seem to help a bit is if the Pac-stick is worn some, so that the throw on it is a bit longer than normal.

Marco has all sorts of leaf switches, even down to the individual parts you'd need to build a custom one from scratch.

I've seen some of this leaf with pinball parts. I guess if you have a PAC/MS.PAc stick, you could use this 3-leaf from a pinball parts.  :dunno

I understand now.  In my head I was thinking about a new replacement, off the shelf switch that you could just buy.  I've never used/seen in person/handled leaf switches - when you unscrew them from the pac stick do they 'fall apart'?  Can you separate the leafs from the spacers?  Is there somewhere that you can buy new ones, or do you have to harvest them off of used pac sticks?

Thanks,
Rick

They will, indeed, come apart when unscrewed.  Not all leafswitches are like this- some are molded into plastic bases, but the "fiber" ones are just pressed between layers of fiberglass or whatever that stuff is.  I believe Bob Roberts might sell you some appropriate switches, but be sure to tell him they're for a Midway Pac-Man type stick.

I did see on his list that he has nylon or fiber leafs.  I was wondering just what the difference was between them.  Is there any other differences?

Thanks,
Rick

The ones from a Midway joy are square on the ends, and *possibly* a different length.  I'm not sure about that, and all my Midway joys are packed away right now.  But if you let Bob know you're after leafs for a Midway Pac Man-type stick, he'll know what to give you.
