Midway coin-up/start button on coin door, what size?
« on: December 06, 2006, 03:50:15 am »
I've seen people talk about this before, but I thought it'd be a 'normal' size.   I have a coin door that has a button-hole for a coin-up or a start button.  I decided I might use it instead of requiring quarters/tokens but I discovered that neither a microswitch nor a leaf button would fit.  What gives?

Am I wrong about what this hole is for in the coin door?

Here are some pics.  You can see the text underneath the hole saying "press button to start game" which is covered up by some red 'tape'.

its a home made job. Maybe they used what ever button they found lying around, or one of those SQUARE (used in trivia games)ones cause those has a smaller diameter for the shaft that regular micro buttons or the base of a leaf switch/button (maybe he used a spacer).

Actually that's not a home made job. All Midway doors up thru Galaxian had that start button hole. It was a holdover from Midway's electromechanical game days. The gambling machine lighted pushbutton switch assemblies should fit in the hole since they only need a 1" hole.

Thanks guys.  Yeah, it's definitely not homemade.  It has an interior ring (from being pressed through, and a plug assembly that matches the original textured paint on the coin door.

Anybody have a happ# on a "gambling machine lighted pushbutton" or some other search terms I can use?   I did some searching for 1" buttons and found these "Midway Pushbuttons (Illuminated)" but I'm not sure if any of those are what I'm looking for.

You might have some luck on the proper button with pinball parts scavengers/suppliers.

Thanks for those numbers, Ken.  I probably wouldn't have ever found them by myself.
