Question about Roms you have on your MAME Arcade?
« on: December 05, 2006, 05:40:49 pm »
Hey guys,

Just a simple question.

The games on your MAME Arcade do you legally own these roms?

My second question do any of you have Michael Jackson's Moonwalker?  Not because I want it I just want to see if there are any oldschool fans out there.  He is not one of my favorite celebrities.  Hell he is not one of my favorite carnies!

Load your PC with the lastest version of MAME and all the roms, as well as, the nes, snes, sega, and any other console roms you can find.

Once that is done.  Goto your local branch of the FBI or Postal Inspector   :police: and show them your hard work.

Let me know what happens.

Yeah, I only have the Smash TV MAME ROM loaded cause I just bought the cabinet.  Of course.  And only verion 5 until my version 8 ROMs arrive.  Oops.  I mean until I find a machine with version 8 ROMS.

But as for MJ Moonwalker, a good friend of mine's kid plays it all the time.  He loves it!  Figured it would be a kid that's only 8 now, huh?  I play it (on someone else's cab since I only have Smash TV on mine, remember) every now and then.  The biggest problem I've found with MAME is that on someone else's cab there are so damn many things to choose from that it exacerbates the instant gratification syndrome.

You know I'm BAD.

Well I have about 407 games on my system with MAME .110.  I cant get stinking parent copy of TMNT 2 Turtles in Time working but the clones work.  Anyways I have all the boards somewhere in storage.  Only the games on my system I think I will enjoy.  PM me if you want to know about my Turtles in Time Strife.

Yeah, I keep all my boards off shore in a Swiss-Storage-Shed.  It seems to be safer that way.

I have just as many roms as these guys, as well as an X-Men vs Streetfighter CPS2 kit.  I was thinking about selling it on E-Bay for a measly $100, but now plan on keeping it.  I see it as one of those things that people will actually pay quite a bit for once it becomes super-rare.  Along with the marquee it will probably get at least $1000 in about 10 years... ;D

I made a selection of about 200 games. I guess I will never play them all. Well, at least once maybe, but in the end I think I'm ending up just playing a few titles.
The people that have all the roms (online!) on a machine suffer from 'digital collection'-syndrome.

Yeah, good thing they didn't make many of them ...  :dizzy:

Better check that battery often.

Do they use a common battery?  This is probably a stupid question, but the program won't disappear if the battery dies will it?  It is a ROM chip right?

You want to read this page ... it has all of the info you need.

And, to put things in perspective, REALLY rare and desirable boards don't go for $1000. It's too bad,but it's true.

1. No and I don't care and neither do the Police.
The Police returned my mates MAME romsets, Dreamcast set, GBA carts and burning equipment, even his PS2 with a packed out hard drive and freeloader. They were looking for something else on his PC equipment which breaks a law that actually matters!
2. Yeah, MoonWalker's a cool game, I play it quite often and I'm making up for all the other crummy conversions to Spectrum , Atari ST, Amiga which I payed for that sucked!

There is a guy locally selling the same thing (CPS2 kit with marquee) for C$75. Last few full cabinets I have seen ended up selling for C$125-200.

Prices are dropping ... you may want to list it on ePay at your earliest free/cheap listing day and put it up for $150 or so ... you never know with eBay, especially around the silly season.

Cheers

Maybe because the Muni Cop didnt want to deal with the Federal Law.  Unless they were just looking for kiddie porn only  >:D

Trust me, if you take it to a Federal Agency you will not get it back and most importantly you will have a nice INDITMENT to follow.  If I am not mistaken all you need is one rom to get the 10,000 fine.  When that Kazaa thing went down, they went after people with any amount of downloads.  Dont be fooled

Most, if not all people charge with piratcy, is on the Federal level.

I'm in the UK, it wasn't your local beat copper who called if that's what a 'muni cop' is and it wasn't to do with kiddie pr0n, just that what they were after wasn't on his computers and they didn't seem fussed about one bloke with a lot of computer games.
Maybe if he was making a living distributing pre release games or distributing ROM sets they'd have done something.
