Glass clips for cocktail cabs **Still some 1 1/4" left**
« on: September 28, 2006, 10:51:09 pm »
Hi guys,

I have just finished my latest mad creation and want to know the sizes of the USA Pacman cocktail tops.
Both the thickness of the wood and the correct glass size.

So a total size would be good.

I have gained limited access to a laser cutter today and I laser cut some glass clips and then laser etched the Space Invaders monster onto the side.
These are finished in BA grade stainless which has a mirror finish. Could probably make them from something else too. Black stainless maybe?

I have been looking at how to brand the machines I build without being to obstrusive and I finally found it! I cut myself some 80mm fan grills and included my business name and the monster in the centre.

I would like to make these clips available to you guys.
I was also thinking of etching the MAME logo as well but not sure about the usage of their logo or maybe a BYOAC logo if I can gain permission?

These look totally sick and as soon as I get my camera back from my sister I will post some pics.

Postage will have to be done via mail to keep costs down to you (7-10 days to USA). Payment will be made via Paymate because with Paypal I can only buy, not sell because as they dont accept NZ bank accounts.

If someone could give me the dimensions it would be much appreciated.
Its not going to make me rich by any means but just would like to offer something different more than anything I guess.

Thanks,

Still havent got my camera back

Can someone give me the measurements for the tops so I can make some.
I make the tops out of 18mm MDF ( 3/4" ) then a 6mm piece of glass on top.

But I think you guys have a 1" thick piece of wood? And how thick is the correct glass size?

1" inch wood and 1/4" inch glass. =====Total of 1 1/4"

How about some pac-man ghosts or even pac-man? But I still like space invaders better though. ;D

Cheers fellas,

I do have a website but these aren't on there.

What would you say is a fair price per clip?

Your cost + 10%  or ~$20/8 clips, whichever is less.

I'd say $20 to $25 plus shipping would be a fair price. I couldn't see paying more than $25.

Message me if you come up with a price and availability. I'll actually be needing new ones in a couple weeks, as I'm building a cocktail right now.

I'd go for a set of Pac-Man clips.

I think they are awesome too.

I have been building machines for quite some time now and the one thing that has let them down is the glass clips. Ok, it sounds a strange to get excited over clips but everytime I was screwing on some cut up pieces of whatever, I felt dissapointed and there was nothing available here to suit.

Now I have these!

Yesterday when I was delivering a machine I felt a lot better about it. Why? Because the clips look AWESOME!

I will work out some prices and post them up.
Also, you say you would like Pacman ones too? What should be on them?
Pacman or Ghost?

As long as you're looking for input, I'd like to request the actual Space Invaders that you see onscreen rather than the monster from the artwork. I'll buy a set either way though. I look forward to seeing your pricing on these.

-S

I was going to do some with the Space Invaders on them, the ones from the 1st row in the game but the Monster from the artwork was a better fit. Could be easily changed though.

With the Pacman ones I could do 4 of each. 4 x Pacman and 4 x Ghosts. When you fit them to your cab you could arrange them to have 1 of each on each side of the cab. That would look like Pacman was chasing the Ghost.

I have to set the pricing at $39.95 USD a set.

I know its a little steep but it takes quite a bit to make them. Lots of tedious folding and I like to pay something to the owner of the machinery for usage to whom I am grateful for even letting me do this. Anything to do with stainless is always $$$. For those who don't know, stainless is hard on tools and specialist machinery to cut, weld and fold stainless in a commercial situation is expensive.

Considering the ones I have seen online are $35USD or even 35 pounds a set of 8 plain black ones, the price isn't that bad for these.

So if you want some, let me know sizes etc.
Because we have different measurement systems this could get tricky. You guys are in the dark ages using imperial and we use metric. I dont want to have loads of different measurements to suit indiviuals so would rather have 2 sizes per system and with 2 different styles of art for now.

So there will be a 3/4 inch top and 1/4 glass.
And 1 inch top and 1/4 glass for original machines.

I have some here now. They have an internal measurement of 24mm which is 0.9449 inch.
Because I use 18mm top and 6mm glass.
Any metric guys want some now let me know. Or imperial guys with a thinner glass top too?

I will also go to the post shop and reply with a cost for postage to USA and UK.

You have a right to charge whatever you want for your product and I understand wanting to kick a little back to the owner of the machinery that you are using but...
Lasers are not affected by the material being cut and SS is no more harsh on a break than any other material.

So yea, I'm calling you out on that excuse.  A simple "$40 for a set of 8 is the price.  Take it or leave it." would do just as well.

Nice one mate.

I stated that this type of machinery is expensive and if you work with stainless all day you have to have good stuff.  You can't just buy a laser cutter and a press brake from your hardware store and fold some clips on a lazy sunday arvo. You have to invest mega $$$$.

You obviously know enough to say that so have another think about it. SS is harder to work with and more expensive than most other metals used in manufacturing. Thats what I was stating. I have worked with SS a lot and I can tell you that trying to cut, fold, form and weld this stuff can be a nightmare. 'nuf said.

I don't make anything on these and I only thought while I was making some for myself I would see if anyone else was interested but if you only have smart ass remarks then I won't bother. Doesn't phase me one bit.

Thanks again PAL.

I think the price is fair. They are normally $35. $39 for a set of customs is not bad. I would love the Pac-Man and Ghost set, and would pay $39 for them.

I have to get a measurement. I have an Arcade Depot cocktail kit, and I haven't gotten my glass yet.

Anyone know the measurement?  :dunno

Don't get your panties in a bunch!  This is a public forum where I stated my opinion.  If that is enough for you to decide not to produce these things you should find a new forum to visit because here at BYOAC people call it as they see it.

Oh and don't try and get everyone all pissed of at me if you decide not to do this either.  If you don't make them it's because you don't want to not because I pissed in your cherios.

 :soapbox:

Was having a crap day yesterday.

I worked in a Hot Rod shop and I have built my own drag cars, including engines, so when it comes to fabricating with metals, I know sh!t. Do you think the owner of the machinery shop I use is going to let some pimple face kid with glasses who is into video games walk in off the street and use industrial machinery? I don't think so Tim.

Nobody pisses on my cherios either.  :tool:

Anyways.  :P

I will make these. And I will send them anywhere in the world.
I won't get a chance to do some more until next week because its holidays here at the mo'. I made 40 for myself last time but I only have 2 sets left.

Sizes will be:

Internal measurement.
1"
1 1/4"
and 24mm

Art will be Invaders Monster ( 8 ) or Pacman and Ghost (4 of each).
Stainless  :P only.

Set of 8 $39.95 + P&P.

Will go to Post shop today and get some costs for post to USA. Forgot yesterday.

Glad to hear you came around. I'll give you measurements when I get them.

No need to let a tool get to you.  :timebomb:

Keep us posted, and I'll let you know when I get the measurements.
I'm with stupid.

While I am thinking about it,

Who has some ideas about something I could make for an upright machine?
Something small like these clips?

Post your ideas.

I've been kicking around the idea of doing a bartop with an old iMac. I have one, and it's ripe for the bartop use. Monitor and computer are all right there, with a pretty darn good OS8 system, USB and all that. It's the original bullet-style body.

I don't know if you could use the clips, but it's an idea I've had rolling around my head.  :dizzy:

FWIW I never said that the price was unfair.  If I had a cocktail and there were some sort of design you could do for a rally-x (the cocktail I'd most likely own) I'd gladly pay that...
If there's bees in the trap I'm catching em
By the thorax and abdomen
And sanding the stingers down to a rough quill
Then I dip em in ink, and I scribble a bit
But if it they wriggle then I tickle em until they hold still
Lemme say it again
In my land of pretend
I use bees as a mf'n pen
