WTB: Cheap Trackball Alternative and...
« on: March 31, 2006, 04:42:17 pm »
I am looking to get:

A CompUSA Crystal Trackball, a cheap trackball, or another cheap trackball alternative

An IPAC 4, the 56 input one, just wondering if I can get one for under the normal new $65 dollar price

Also just want to know, what kind of wire is good to use for button and joystick wiring?

Yeah I know, if I don't find it cheaper elsewhere, I will probably come to you.

I have one. (CompUSA Crystal Trackball) hows $20.00 +  ship

I think you would like the crayola track ball more though
$40.00 + ship
( I paid $50.00 for it ) I ended up buying a real arcade track ball

Crystal is better than no trackball
Crayola is close to a arcade fell... a bit more resistance
Real arcade.... well .... Real arcade feel
could trade but I have most all I need.. could use some side art.

PM me (I will probably forget about this thread come morning  :-[

I think I've got a 3" Betson Imperial trackball (or 2?) in the basement.  They're used and one looks better than the other if I remember correctly...  Lemme see what I can find.

Great thanks, I was just looking into those, as they seem reasonably priced, is it a nice arcade feeling one, like is this a decent trackball in general and are yours in particular in good working condition?

Great thanks, I was just looking into those, as they seem reasonably priced, is it a nice arcade feeling one, like is this a decent trackball in general and are yours in particular in good working condition?

I have two of them, one is in good working condition and the other one needs new rollers.

So, I've got 2 trackballs here, both are used and one is in better condition than the other.

Both trackballs have complete uncracked cases and they both work (they have the std 6pin connections and I hooked both of them up to my mouse-trackball hack and tested them).   NOTE: This is important to notice (particularly if you're new to this)  that these have trackball connectors but not a PS2 or a USB connector.  A PS2 or USB connector allows you to hook up a TB straight to your PC and have it show up as a mouse.   The std trackball connector on these either requires a mouse-hack (which is pretty easy if you can solder) or one of those Opti-Pac thingies.  Maybe you know all this, but I want to make sure you know what you're looking at here.

The main difference between the two TBalls here lies in the rollers (as you can see from the pics below).  TB1 has 'marks' where the ball rolls, but no real indentation.  TB2 OTOH has worn into the rollers but would be great with a $20 roller set from BobRoberts.   My guess is that you'd want TB1.  It's used but works as good as the new TB in my CP.   If you want closer/macro pics of the rollers, let me know.

I'm looking for $38 shipped for the good one and $28 shipped for the not as good one.

I also have a "3-inch Golden Tee & PGA Tour" mounting kit.  It's a top plate but also has a bottom plate that sandwiches the trackball in the middle for more support.   I'll sell it along with a trackball for what I paid for it ($8.95) plus $1.05 added for the shipping, so $10 on top of the TBall cost.

NOTE:  This mounting kit is really designed to have a control panel overlay on top of it.  It's not "black textured/powerdercoated".  It's plain "clear zinc", meaning it just looks like metal (IOW, not 'pretty').  I can take some pics if you'd like.

If you have any questions, let me know.

I would not use anything but a arcade ball you will never be happy the betson above would be perfect for you, but a compusa ball etc, you are not going to get a arcade feel
