Mounting: Replacement Joystick for MS Pac-Man/ GALAGA
« on: March 31, 2006, 12:05:05 pm »
I just got me a dedicated 4-way, but have mounting questions.

http://www.happcontrols.com/joysticks/5060841125r.htm

If I am going up through 3/4" of CP material only the ball and maybe 1/4" of shaft is above the top of the CP.  This seems too litlle.  Should I recess the CP for the joystick?

Anyone have pictures they can share to show how they mounted theirs?

Thanks

Yeah, these are really made for metal CPs.  There are longer-joystick-shafts available.   A guy named tornadoterry sells them.   He's an ebayer from Tejas.  I can never remember his exact ebay name, but I'll see if i can find it for you.

That particular joystick specifically states its for metal control panels only but your on the right track for your own use.  Either route out a place for the mounting plate OR get a replacement joystick.  I know I have seen/read that they are available.  I hear its a great joystick, you will like it once your happy with how it mounts.

I have the ms pacman/galaga 4 way.  I mounted it by recessing the cp from the top.  I cut a hold to fit the base and routed the top.  After you lock it down then I put the switches back on.  Works great.

for the ms-pac / galaga reunion:
if you want to bottom-mount it without routing, you can use the link in my signature to obtain a tornadoterry shaft and mcmaster-carr ball knob or a betson joystick. i'm using both, and they're both working well for me.

I replaced my Ms. Pac reunion shaft with a longer Wico red balltop.  A while back I removed it from my CP and I'm selling it in B/S/T if you're interested.

I just did this over the weekend.  Did a write up on it today.  Would have put it in here if I was paying attention.   :dizzy:
