Missle Command - High Score movie
« on: March 30, 2006, 12:23:12 pm »
Trailer

from the site:
Quote
Although technology continues to evolve, a group of die-hard gamers refuses to abandon the classic arcade games of yesteryear. The 80's live on for these enthusiasts, who compete against each other and history to record the world's highest scores. Portland gamer Bill Carlton is one of the most brazen, fearlessly taking on some of the toughest records on the books.

HIGH SCORE follows Bill as he attempts to take down the Atari classic Missle Command and its twenty year-old record. To get the 80 million points he'll have to play the game on one quarter for over two days straight. There is no pause button. There will be no sleep. There can be only one victor in this classic story of Man versus Missle Command.

Shoot.. they were screening it here in Austin.. I would've tried to go if I knew.. Sounds like it could be totally interesting or insanely boring (haven't watched the trailer yet)

If you ever try going for the record, you may need to be catheterized first.  :o

Here's a detailed review of one of his games. I'm not sure if it's the same game as in the movie.

Did you guys checkout www.groundkontrol.com? This is the arcade linked to from the site.  Its in Portland, OR.  And they serve beer after 7pm.  I've already purchased my plane ticket.

Amazing...just amazing.  No comparison with the sad sack-ass "arcades" we have around here.

That place rocks.  I was there about a year ago, and it's pretty darn nice.  The guys that run it are serious arcade collector geeks, so they know what it's all about.  For example:  the Berzerk machine has the original giant black bat handle joystick, instead of the Wico replacement that's on just about every other Berzerk I've ever seen.  When I was there, there was one SF Rush machine, and I think the next newest game was a Simpsons.  Everything else was straight out of the classic era.  Wish I was close enough to go back.
