slowww games
« on: January 27, 2003, 04:21:34 am »
I was just curious if there will ever be a MAME that uses video card acceleration instead of just the CPU. I'm convinced that these newer games (Killer Instinct, Cruisin USA/World, Wargods, etc..) will never be playable on a PC if they rely strictly on CPU power, so are they worth keeping or just wasting space? HAS anyone gotten these games to run at full speed? I know that setting frameskipping to 0 increases the speed a bit, but it's still choppy as hell to play.

AS you know, MAME intention is not to play the games but
documents them. Playing the games is just a miracle for us, maybe they thought about it at one point to see if the EMULATOR really works. ANyway 4GHZ CPU is just around the corner or maybe what the hell why don't they just skip the 4ghz mark and jump into 10ghz and stop wating people money on upgrading all the time...DAMM INTEL..Let me work for INTEL and I give them a piece of my mind and tell them to stop jerking ppl around and get the 10ghz CPU moving...move it move it...damm it..  hehehe  :)

The CPU speeds will go up, the drivers will get optimized. Patience is what you need.
My statements are my own opinions. They have the value that the reader gives them. My opinion of my opinion varies between foolish and brilliant and these opinions often change with new information.

btw, if they don't have a real 3d chip on the original board (crus'n) then it will be MUCH slower to use 3d acceleration...   Even if you figured it out... the textures are generated for each frame... the amount of time to upload the textures wouldn't help anything out at all....

And many of these games are slow on todays machines even when they ignore all video.....  So the 3d wouldn't help there...

But all in all... hopefully the mame drivers will get some people to write optimized emulators for each...  Similar to vivonanno that isn't as truely emulated... but more playable.
