2 or 3 buttons for 4-way stick?
« on: September 15, 2005, 12:07:50 am »
What do you guys think?  Are there many good 4-way games that use three buttons?

I put three on mine. I don't remember why but I am pretty sure I had a bloody good reason. Go 3 buttons.

If it is a vertical setup then the proper number is 2 or 4. Nothing has more than 2, except Mouse Trap which has 4. None have 3.

I am also unaware of any 4-way horizontal games that have 3 buttons.

That depends on what you consider 4-way games.
If 2-way games are included, Bank Panic uses 3 buttons.

I'd count that, it's a cool game :)

I'd count that. Like I said, I wasn't aware of any of them. I never went through the horizontal 4-way games with a fine toothed comb like I did the vertical ones.

Oh, and Vanguard is SO 8-way.

Well...I don't know if this applies to the topic or not, but what I did was mount my 4 way to the left of player 2's joystick so the buttons can be shared among them.

Well...I don't know if this applies to the topic or not, but what I did was mount my 4 way to the left of player 2's joystick so the buttons can be shared among them.  The joysticks don't get in the way of each other and the buttons are not too far way from the 4 way as to feel "disconnected"...works for me and it also saved me some buttons.  Also, some people like to play 4 way games with their right hand and in that case they can use player 1's buttons.

I actually prefer that setup myself, although I prefer to mount the 4-way directly to the left of the player one stick and have it share THAT button bank.
