Change game configuration menu key
« on: January 07, 2003, 08:54:09 pm »
Somehow I mapped my game configuration button (tab) to none. Now I can't get back in to change it. Is there a way to change it or at least reset the defaults?

I'm not sure how I did it, I've tried setting keys to none before and couldn't figure out how, I'd end up with like 6 keys assigned to the same function.

Oh yeah I'm using mame32.  ;D

If you muck up your game keys and want to reset them to default then open the C:\Mame\Cfg folder and delete the relevant .cfg file for the game. If for some insane reason you change the default Mame keys and can't get back into the in-game menu then you will need to delete the default.cfg file from the same folder as before.

Good Luck.

I wouldn't use the word "insane", someone at my Christmas party managed to get into the menu and I saw the menu key set to [none] right before he hit escape. I'm debating reprogramming the Ipac so that you have to use the keyboard to get into the config.

So how do you set a key to none assuming you can get into the menu?

I just lifted that quote from the webpage I linked....I wouldn't have said "insane" either.....I've done it before by mistake....

Not sure how to map to none, just thought the info would help you out....

have 2 default.cfg
one that will be let you in the MENU, and one that you can't.
For the one that you don't want no one in menu, change the settings to NONE, I mean type the N O N E quickly. So you need to hit 4 buttons N O N E to access it and of course one or more keys are missing in your JOYSTCIK/BUTTONS so no one can access it. Then use the original .cfg that is iset to the TAB key to access the menu. Or you can just use one CFG and type in N O N E quickly to access the menu with your keyboard.
