noob questions about coin mechs
« on: July 09, 2005, 02:30:58 pm »
I have two over under coin doors for my tmnt mame cab they are coin controls brand. I have 1 coin mech in each of them now but would like to have all 4. My questions is do I need to get coin controls brand mech or will any brand like happ or coin co fit? From the pics Ive seen on ebay they all look like they would fit but I just want to be sure.

Actually, Coin Controls doors need Coin Controls coin chutes in them to work properly. The Coin Controls chutes have an extension 'shovel' at the top to better guide coins in since the entry 'trough' on the door has a section where coins can actually slide right past the top of the coin chute and miss going into the coin chute completely. Then you wonder why the bottom of the game cabinet has lots of quarters rolling around.

This is primarily the cause of games with bashed in coin doors. If the game were on location, a kid would stick his quarter in. If the machine did not have a Coin Controls coin chute in the Coin Controls door the kid has a 1 in 3 chance his quarter will miss going into the coin chute and simply fall to the bottom of the cabinet. Then the kid gets pissed off and bashes the door in because he 'lost' his quarter. This is why Coin Controls brand doors need Coin Controls brand coin chutes installed. Sure you could put in some other brand of coin chute and it may work, but not 100% of the time. I've learned from 30 years of actual video game route maintenance and we ended up using EXCLUSIVELY Coin Controls brand coin chutes in Coin Controls doors. It saved a lot of unnecessary service calls which kept the customers happy.
