BBYOAC Message Forum: User Deletion Activity Announcement
« on: May 25, 2005, 02:16:19 pm »
Just received this email...  When is this policy going to be enforced?  I wonder how many users will lose when this is first run.

------
Dear User,

You are receiving this message as you are a registered user on the Build Your
Own Arcade Message Forum.

Effective immediately we will be implementing a reoccurring user deletion
exercise for registered users. It will have the following qualifications:

0 posts
Never logged in, or Login Time is >= 1 year from current date
Registered with site >= 6 months from current date.

If you find this deletion in error, you can simply re-register your account.
This will be repeated at least weekly and will eventually move to daily. We will
also be instituting additional qualification in the future. You will be notified
in advance for any changes made to this process.

Regards,
BYOAC Team.

MC: The system sent out 7500 emails all at once, and I got a ton of bounces. Make sure that your yahoo account is valid and you're not blocking us in some way. I'm wondering if mails going to hosts like this flagged it as flood spam and denied it. I had to eventually direct the undeliverables to null.

yahoo may have thought it to be spam or something.. I checked my bulk folder and it wasn't in there either....

No big deal....I check out the forums every day due to my BYOAC addiction  ;D so I doubt I have to worry about deletion.....

We really get hit or miss with Hotmail accounts. I see undeliverables for them all the time for one reason or another (quota, account gone, etc). We're not on any block list, and we really don't send out that much mail. Who knows.

I can throw anybody a gmail bone if you want it. Hotmail is OK, but it is definitely the bottom of the big 3.

I never got that email either and I run my own mail server (no spam filters). Strange

The only thing I can say is be sure your email is accurate. I definitely know it went out as I counted approx 7800 seperate emails in the logs.

I hope your joking. I'm not about to cross reference bounces and/or undeliverables with what is listed in the profile and try to contact these users manually. There's no guarantee even doing that will get the user notified. I received approx 1200 bounces/undeliverables, which just about covers the number of accounts that deleted during the wipe. If a user cannot be expected to keep their profile information correct, how are we able to do so?

Any semi-regular will never see their account deleted. You have to be away for at least 12 months for it to be considered. I may put the the announcement in the news banner at the top of the forum on the next one.
