unknown parts anyone know these?
« on: May 11, 2005, 08:40:32 am »
Can anyone identify these parts.  They were found in a box containing videogame boards.  I am very courious to know what they are.

Dude, your image filename says it all! They are eprom chips!

Now if you think we can identify what GAME they are for/from, you're crazy. Most boards use the same standard chips...

EDIT:
Actually, if you want to identify the data on the chips, you'll have to get a device to read them (I don't know if an Eprom burner will also read data). Then once you dump the data, you could scan it with a hex editor and look for text (assuming the data isn't encrypted or using non-standard text codes).

There's also a chance the data on them has been corrupted, if those little "windows" on them have had any exposure to UV light.

The name of your picture already says what they are, they are EPROMS. The model numbers are clearly visible on them. We can't magically look at them and tell you what game they came from (if that is what you are wanting), and that part doesn't even matter.
Acceptance of Zen philosophy is marred slightly by the nagging thought that if all things are interconnected, then all things must be in some way involved with Pauly Shore.

Heh.  This is like showing a picture of a bunch of unlabled floppies and asking what's on them :)

Seriously.  EPROMS are just a hardware method of storing data.  Like Ray said, what's on them is anyone's guess, and even if you read them in a programmer, you probably won't know unless the authors put some plain ASCII readable text in the data somewhere.

(I don't know if an Eprom burner will also read data).

Depends on the burner.  I have a willems burner that can.  I haven't used it yet for anything though.  I have to wait for my birthday to open the box. :'(
