Angled joystick for Congo Bongo...
« on: April 26, 2005, 12:31:06 pm »
I'm in the process of buying parts for my CP...I want to pick up a couple of "T-Stik plus" joys for player 1 and 2 and have a dedicated joy for games like Congo Bongo and Q-Bert...

Should I just install a 4 way stick and angle it, or is there a specific joystick that I should use...

I read somewhere in a post of a joy that can be angles by a restrictor plate...is this correct?

Anyone know what it is?

As always, any help will be greatly appreciated...

The Ultimarc E-Stick and Happ Universal (same thing really) both allow the base to be twisted 45 degrees for this kind of thing.

I just ordered a Happ Universal myself. :)

Use the T-stik in 8-way mode for Q*Bert.
The square restrictor on it makes it feel just like a rotated 4-way stick.

NoOne=NBA= has explained a number of times on this board how to configure an 8 way to act like a rotated 4-way in mame....

And one of these days I'm actually going to take the time to set mine up that way so I can play some Q-Bert.

I use a Happ Universal installed at a 45 degree angle, works great.

I use an ulimarc J-Stick, mounted in a standard orientation (i.e. not rotated) - the square "japanese-style" restrictor plate gives the stick a tendancy to slide towards the diagonals in normal usage - it's actually pretty close to the feel you get from a rotated 4-way, but with the advantage that you can play non-rotated games too.

(but obviously you need to re-bind the keys in q*bert to respond to diagonal joystick movements!)
