I-Pac went pop!!!
« on: March 04, 2005, 03:54:48 pm »
Very strange this.......

Ive got an I-Pac4 connecting my controls to my pc. Everything has been working spot on for the last few weeks.

I just took delivery of a new pc and installed it in my cab (similar pc 2.4GHz to 3Ghz upgrade amongst minor things.)
I plugged the I-Pac USB lead in and fired up. I opened wordpad to check it was working ok and nothing happened. I tried other USB ports, even different USB hubs in my CP still with no joy. I then noticed that the I-Pac LEDs we no longer on. I thought that this was strange and went to reboot my PC again. As i shut windows down I noticed the I-Pac lights flickering, namely the one at the opposite end of the ps/2 connection and then all of a sudden the board made a POP noise which seem to come from the end opposite the ps/2. Now the lights are back on again but I am still getting nothing. I have used a multimeter and the voltage output from the I-Pac (Ground => each sw posistion) seems to range from 0.1v to 1.4v, is this normal?

Whats happening?  :'(

try it in the ps/2 port. I use mine in ps/2. I think the voltage should be 5vdc (just check my ps/2 setup and its 5vdc). Dunno about USB one but I think it also should be 5vdc.

Yeah i think it should be too.

I havent got a ps2 to ps2 lead other wise I would try.

The reason I went for USB in the first place was because my old motherboard wasnt compatible with the ps2 passthrough of my old x-arcade (I had to get a ps2 => USB adapter) so I guessed the I-Pac also would only work via ps2.

Think Ill email andy at Ultimarc to see if he has any ideas.

Was this a motherboard USB port?  Have you used it with other USB peripherals?

The only reason I ask is the off chance that it could have gotten mis-wired if it's an off-board port on the front of the case or something.

Sorry your board got fried!  I wouldn't expect it to be capable of much of anything, now...

What is wired to the board?  Sure you don't have a short somewhere?
