looking for older older Mame version
« on: March 04, 2005, 10:38:53 am »
Hello, I'm in the process of putting together my first machine. It's running a PII 400mhz box using Win XP and Kymaera with a vertical screen.. I'm shooting to play mostly classics.. and so far so good..

I started with a current mame version (0.92) but that was a little slow and there were some issues with a couple games... So, I've gone back and used mame v0.69b that is available on mame.net, I get good performance, and it runs my games.. the trouble is, now on Galaga there are some annoying sound issues (no explosion sound when i get killed), and no sound at all on Zaxxon...  If I go back to an older version, i get really poor performance on all my games (it seems 0.69 is the oldest that allows me to turn on Direct3d).

I'm looking for versions between 0.69b and the current version.. Mame.net's "Older MAME versions" page only goes out to 0.69...

Anybody have any help on where I might find versions between 0.69-0.92 ??

thanks!

you can download old version from MAME.NET but the the trick is: copy the link of one the the binaries and chenges the ending to the version you want.
example:

copy this link
http://www.mame.net/zips/mame069b.zip

then change the ednign to version you want

http://www.mame.net/zips/mame079b.zip
or
 http://www.mame.net/zips/mame089b.zip
or
http://www.mame.net/zips/mame076b.zip

hope you get it the idea.

If you're not getting those sounds, you need the samples.

Thanks Peale! You're exactly on the money.. there were indeed troubles with the Samples.. I think i've got it mostly straight... EXCEPT for Donkey Kong now... If I run with the current version of Mame the samples play.. when i back up to .69 they don't :(

Can anybody point me to a set of samples for Dkong that will work with older versions of Mame?

thanks!

Yeah, that's the same sample that I have ... the DKong one works for the current version of Mame, not the older version.
A little research from the MAWS site shows that a change was made to the DKong samples on MAME vers .86... maybe I'll donwload vers .87 or so, and see how that runs things.. I really liked the older vers, but i'll keep hunting for that version that is "just right" :)
