The problem lays in the way you are going around the problem.

I would like to quote you back if I may.
any ideas on how to talk the wife into letting me paint the wifes car from this:
<Insert pic of daggy car here>

to this:
<Insert pic of cool GB car here>

The problem is you are trying to convince her.

You need to be a man and just do it and to hell with the consequences. Just say,

Living the delusional lifestyle.

That wagon pales in comparison to the real Ecto-1. But it's still damn cool.  ;D

What is with Americans wanting their cars to look like bookshelves?
Now in a tasty new flavour.

I disagree with bones.  I don't think you should say any of that stuff to her before you go ahead and paint it.  Just send her to her Mom's house for the day and go have it done.  Pretend that you are totally shocked when she tells you she hates it.  Tell her, "honey....I did this for you."

I'd always wonder this as well.  Do people enjoy seeing a stripe of fake wood grain on a car.  Maybe they just need to go out and build themselves a wooden cart or something.

Just give her a choice!  Eitehr the Ghostbusters conversion, or her own Back to the Future time machine!  Either way you win.

delta88 that's cool you guys should definately convert it :D

GameOver A BTTF Delorean would be way too cool, but if she won't go for our funds converting her boring grocery getter into an awsome ghost busting machine I doubt she'd go for that purchase ;D

just tell her that "Pimped My ride on MTV" had taken the car by mistake and PIMPED it to a replica of the GB mobile.  ;) This way you got yourself covered before she tells you to go and do it with one the GHOST TRAMP you trapped.  :D

now that's one heck of an idea

now thats a shame. the delorean was an interesting car in its own right. totally devalues it with all that junk on it. the wagon into ghostbusters i can understand. especially if it means getting rid of that strange vinyl wood stuff  ;)

The delorean is an... interesting...  and unusual/rare these days car all right. I really wish they were common so a BTTF conversion like that could be cheaper. I'd LOVE to have that in my driveway.

HELLO McFLY!  YOU'RE BUYING A TIME MACHINE!  DON'T WORRY ABOUT THE $$$! :D

Ok, well, it was 15K when I saw it yesterday, now it's up to 25k.  If we get 100 people to each chip in $250, we could get it!  I got first dibs....

The auction is ending soon & I'm not sure what happens to these links when the auction ends, so I'm slappin' one of those pics here for posterity...

deloreans truly are time machines. since they were made of stainless steel, they'll never rust. so they'll be around way into the future, even if just an empty shell with no mechanicals..
