replacing laptop batteries
« on: January 28, 2005, 03:46:41 pm »
I was wondering if it was possible to rip apart a laptop battery to replace the batteries on the inside?  Are there tutorials anywhere?  Is it worth it?

I hate the prices of replacement batteries.

If it's not possible, I'll just have to buy one.  I guess the advantage of buying a second one is that I can gut the first one and keep it as a blank to lighten up the computer.

Thanks

A) It's probably dangerous to go mucking around in a rechargable laptop battery.

B) Any replacement you build yourself is probably not going to have the life of a factory replacement (so you'd probably have to recharge the sucker all the time.)

There are companies whic re-cell laptop batteries. This is much cheaper than buying a new battery. Mucking about with the insides ain't gonna harm you (aside from a bit of lead poisoning  :) ) but it wll void the battery warranty or stop it from working allogether.
Now in a tasty new flavour.

I still think brand new battery is much better than recelled or refurbished one. If the price is a big issue, just buy after-market battery, they are much cheaper than original or OEM battery. I bought batteries from http://www.ebuybatteries.com, their price is cheap. Or you can go to froogle to find sellers you like.

That is exactly what battery wholesalers do.
