Hot Rod SE vs. X - Arcade
« on: January 31, 2005, 04:10:42 pm »
Hello Guys,

Which do you prefer and why?

Trying to get some input. My girlfriend and I might split one of these bad boys but are not sure which one to get.

We also would be playing Emulators for NES, SNES, etc.

(Please do not criticize me for this 'non building' approach. Unfortunately i contracted a terrible infection of laziness)

HotRod has the advantage that the controls are arcade genuine (Happ), X-Arcade ones are cheaper copies.
X-Arcade has the advantage that it can be used for other consoles (real ones, not emulated...well both).

I went for a HotRod before I saw the light and built my own ;)

Having said that, I bought an X-Arcade before building my own...... and it was OK I suppose (for Mame32 on a desktop computer). But I loved the feel of their joysticks so much that when I did build my own I incorporated a pair of X-Arcade joysticks into the panel.

I would vote against the HotRod based solely on their COLOR choice.
What WERE they thinking?

To me it looks good :)

Hot Rod SE costs $100 to ship to canada and thats not even counting duty!

Hanaho is on crack.

Something the folks at Hanaho will not tell you:  The HotRod SE is not compatible with certain motherboards.  When mine arrived it was not compatible with my PC, when I asked for RMA, I ended up having to pay return shipping and was only credited with the purchase price.  Simply put, I was out around $35 shipping for a problem that Hanaho was aware of but didn't have the integrity to disclose beforehand or remedy to my satisfaction.  I will never deal with them again because of that.  Buyer beware!  ARCADIAC!

Thanks Leedsfan.  After my sour experience with Hanaho I decided to go ahead and build a cab, so all was not in vain!  BTW I tried a usb adaptor with the HotRod SE, didn't work.  So maybe the prudent thing to do for $100 would be to buy an I-pac or Keywiz, sticks, buttons etc. and just build a CP, its really not that hard, if I can do it anyone can!  Good Luck, ARCADIAC!
