Potenial issues rotating PC Monitor vs TV vs Arcade Monitor?

I've tried searching on this but not dug up anything that highlights my concerns...

I am considering including the ability to rotate the monitor in my planned cab to play vertical games properly, and I was wondering if any types of screens have issues being rotated.

I've rotated my 17"crt pc monitor a few times as an experiment - only briefly - and the picture is fine, but sometimes the screen 'position' becomes a little 'out' - as in I have to use the on-screen adjustments to make the picture match the edge of the monitor when I move it back. Is this common? Do arcade monitors/tvs fare any better? Is it the rotation or my manhandling that could cause it?

If its best to keep a monitor in 1 orientation then I will do that, as I do not wish to have to keep adjusting the monitor when I rotate it.

Any feedback/thoughts appeciated!

all monitor/tv/arcade will have discolaration whe you rotate it. After rotating hte monitor, you need to degauss it so the color might come back. Even if you move the whole cabinet, the monitor will discolor.
Best bet for you is make the type of monitor you gonna use have a manula de-gaussing capability (lots of PC monitors do this).

If I remeber correctly, everything will have an issue with being rotated.  Something about the rotation turning the monitor through the magnetic field lines of the earth.  I think you just rotate, degauss, and you're good to go.  I could be wrong, though, check with the monitor guru's to be sure.

Ok thanks that matches up with what I have been reading.... If its just a degauss then thats not bad - I have a presentation monitor with a serial port which lets me control it through that (on/off/degauss etc) so I can write a program to degauss at will.....

I'm taking it that my screen position/size issues are due to moving (as they are not solved by deagussing).

Would the same issue apply if the monitor is facing 'up' as in a cocktail and roated 90 degrees? (ie does this change of axis get around the magnitic field problem)?

i have subconsciously observed what you are talking about in my rotating monitor cocktail. that is, some games seem a bit off centre. i hadn't noticed a pattern as i just thought thats how they are. i'll keep a close eye on it and report back if i see any pattern in it. definitely nothing to do with degaussing, that works fine. my monitor turns off when rotating and on again when it stops and the colour is normally fine...

I've had a rotating 19" PC monitor for a few years now and have had no issues with it at all.  All I have to do is degauss it after rotating.   No problems whatsoever for me.

Hey thanks - good to hear there are no issues. By the sounds of it different monitors behave differently, so I think I will just have to try it out with the monitor I want to use. It says in the manual that I should not degauss more than once in a 20 minute period, which is not ideal as I'd really want to do this if rotating is quick and painless - if it was a hassle I'd end up leaving it in horizontal all the time....
